Pretty much all the alcohol manufacturing in the world (or at least the Western world; I don't know about China, Japan and the rest of Asia) is owned by 2 or 3 companies; this includes virtually every whisky and whiskey distillery in Europe and North America, and most of the distilleries in general. Most of the irate scotch distilleries mentioned are, I believe owned by Diageo's competition Pernod-Ricard.
Sure, you can get your own beer and wine made, or buy local, but most spirits and liqueurs are owned by the megacorps.

Damn, I'm tempted to say boycott the irreverant bastards (selling a blended as a single malt!), but I don't know that I could!
Anyway, I don't like Cardhu in the first place. Pretty wussy for a single malt.
