Opening band: Black Mountain?
At least 40 years too late to be interesting. Slow, and with more funk than I am
able to properly appreciate. A. Described as "Concrete Blond hearkening back to Led
Zeppelin. Too much wah-wah. "

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Energy! My socks were rocked. We got Red Right Hand,
The Weeping Song, Stagger Lee and a charged Deanna. We didn't get Time Jesum
Transeuntum, which did not surprise me.

Toronto crowds still suck. We are, as a city, afraid that someone cooler than us is
watching, and waiting to laugh at us. We don't dance, barely move, and don't make
much noise.

Home from the concert. I missed the opening band, Johnny Hollow because of working late and general slackitude at home.

I got to the show just as Abney Park came on, and, as expected, I enjoyed the hell out of them. I got to chat briefly with three of the people from the video shoot, as well as [livejournal.com profile] zagatto, who was there taking some good looking pictures.

After that, there was a brief fashion show, and then Android Lust. When I first heard of the show, I was planning to go just to see AL - Abney Park became a deciding factor once I knew more about them. AL did not disappoint, and I danced the Gothic Industrial Robot Dance throughout. Much fun was had. Now, I am waiting for caffeine and absinthe to wear off, and ripping all the CDs I bought.

Then, bed.

Mmm, bed.

Late at work again, got home and tore my closet apart looking for stuff to wear to NeoVictorian Nightmares. Eventually remembered that my "Dicken's coat" is with StB. Couldn't find my favourite vest, either, but I'm certain it's here somewhere. That's what I get for cleaning things up. I want more neo-Victorian / steampunk clothes. Also, I need to get gear for making my own leather accessories. And I need to learn to weld.

Right now, though, I need to finish my soup, get my other boot on and toss back this Czech absinthe, and get my ass out to the show on the off chance that they intend to actually start before ten.

Also, I need to make a steampunk icon.

Upcoming events:

Aug 25th: A Night of Jolly Rogering at the Pirate Festival, Old Fort York. My plan is go to late in the afternoon to hit the normal pirate fest stuff, then hang around for the booze-soaked dirty comedy afterwards.

Sept 4th: Concert at Funhaus, including Ayria and Combichrist, and other bands that I am less interested in. Tempted, but wary of Tuesday night concerts with 4 bands.

Sept 5th: the Birthday Massacre playing at the Mod Club. Also tempted, and also wary of a Wednesday night concert.

I don't know if I'm too old to make two mid-week concerts these days. Anyone interested in joining me for any of these?

My review, in very brief - [livejournal.com profile] sylvarthorne was right - I should have gone to the Covenant/Rotersand/SomeoneElse show instead. I would likely have had more fun, though perhaps gotten less sleep.
