(no subject)

I almost for got; weird occurrence of the day: this morning on the bus, the driver was letting everyone on for free. He was saying things like "Hey, my treat! It's on me! Such a beautiful day, it's free today!"

My pet theory is that his favourite world cup team won last night. I'm kind of curious about what the implications of doing something like that are; is he really paying an entire morning's fares out of his own pocket? Isn't that a lot of money? How does the TTC track bus ridership/fares anyway? There'd be no record of people with metro passes taking the bus...

Two possibilities come to mind:

1. It's a smog day. Maybe Toronto has some sort of free bus thing on smog days, in an attempt to get more cars off the road? I haven't heard anything about it, and (apparently) neither have you. Nor was it in any of the papers.

So, it's a long shot, but a good idea, if they aren't already doing it.

2. It's the guys last day on the job, anyways, and he was in a great mood.

Hmmm ... an even more likely third option that I hadn't previously considered.

I hate false dichotomies. Did I spell that right? Does anybody care?
