Things I am tired of hearing

[On seeing me washing my lunch dishes at work]
"You're going to make someone a good wife some day!" (from a male executive. my ex-uncle once made the same comment on seeing me cook.)

[On a guy knowing what colour his shirt is]
"Oh, your wife has you really well trained!"

Because washing dishes, cooking, and fashion sense are all "women's work". What century is this again?

How did the subject of what colour your shirt is come up?

Wait... you do your dishes at work?

*GDR*

Those are very sexist and offensive comments. I feel for you and the other guy for having to face such comments.

Oh that's all right! Apparently I'll never find a husband since I don't cook meat!

The above was a comment I received when I was still vegetarian.

Well, you know how it goes. One day a guy washes his own dishes in the kitchen, the next day he's sucking cock in the company bathroom, and then the entire place turns into a corporate version of Church & Wellesley. ;) Seriously though, I think anyone who makes comments like that is probably terrified of anything they see as feminine, because feminine = gay, and we can't have Teh Gay around here! And so they make snarky comments to try to scare the male back into his societal-gender-appropriate role.

I get some of that crap too (as does tocityguy) but in a different way inmy case related to supposedly "male" oriented things or unfeminine things like lifting boxes. Because having boobs means you are incapable of even a smidge of physical labour.

BTW What generation are these folks? I use the excuse that the majority of folks at my workplace are older...oh and suburban.

"You're going to make someone a good wife some day!"

I think I'd be tempted to point out that he's make a lousy husband one day.
