Is LotR really that difficult a read? most of the reviews for the Two Towers that I've been reading online are by people who haven't read the books. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about people's journals, here, but about people like Roger Ebert and people who write reviews professionally for papers and magazines. You'd think they would go to the effort of reading the books before judging things like how true Jackson is to Tolkien.

I find that the cave spider section is my downfall, I sorta like The Two Towers, with the Ents destroying Isnegard and such.
I think next time I try to read it I'll start with Return o the King and get through it first.

Not IMNSHO. I first read it when I was eight or ten. Admittedly it was a little dense for me then, but by the time I was 15 I could handle it no problem.

Or some other bs answer - i dunno, are they just lazy? maybe Tolkien wasn't "cool" the first time around, so they didn't read it and can't be bothered to do so now?
That's what my mom said - when she was in college and the books were big, the people amongst whom they were the most popular were... weird.
