Good/Bad:

Good: Shipment from ThinkGeek; I now have a samurai umbrella, 3 monitor mounted mirrors for work, a coffe cup power inverter that gives me 1 usb power socket and 2 standard power plugs for the car, two power squids, and laser scissors.

Bad: My lungs hate me today.

Good: Managed three good solid workouts this week. In bodycombat, the instructor took my request and worked one of my favourite song/exercise combos in. Also, next time the schedule shifts, she's also taking my suggestion to have a thursday night class, which a) works perfectly with my schedule, and b) means it'll be a full hour class instead of the truncated 45 minute classes we have at lunch.

Bad: Due to excessive caffeine, my guts also hate me today. (The caffeine usually helps with the lungs).

Good: Contact Dance is coming along well. I think by the end of this course, I might actually feel comfortable enough to try a Jam. Though the timing sucks for me.

Bad: The appartment is reaching terrifying levels of messy. We have a moth infestation, though I think (hope!) that they're the sort that eat our food instead of our clothes.

Good: My Indigo shipment also came in - a book on electronics, Cherie Priest's Boneshaker, and a couple non-fictions on superheroes.

Bad: Still having periodic issues with the jaw. Hopefully the dentist on Tuesday will help.

Good: Cafeteria food this week has included meatloaf wrapped in thick slices of bacon with mashed potato and veggies, and veal saltimbocca (sp? basically veal cutlets with fancy ham on top) with a baked potato and veggies. This is why 52 weeks of music and lunch will be hard - the cafeteria food here is *good*.

Good: Despite the good food, I seem to have lost a little bit of weight.

Bad: Despite having just moved into this cube on Monday, I am moving again March 5th, and probably again two weeks after that. I found out about the second move after I'd unpacked everything. The new cube has two walls instead of the three I am used to.

Good: The number of moves is to ensure that we don't end up in "tripods", where they cut the current cubes to 2/3 of their original size, so you can't back up without smacking into the person behind you (where the third wall ought to be). Move 2 has our current cubes tripodded, while move 3 has us move over a couple desks to cube that will not get the tripod treatment.

Grr.: Seem to have messed up my jaw significantly - it's painful enough that I've gone through the tylenol-3s I didn't need when I got snipped. I should probably go see the dentist about it being all mis-aligned and painful, but I feel guilty since I went to the doctor last week for my asthma. Also; wtf, body. Just work properly and stop whining/breaking. Also, pls deliver the washboard abs I requested last year.

Grr.: $100+ USB microphone I bought for the last NVF session seems to have completely died. I was great for the session it worked during. I no longer have the receipt.

Yay: Got enough mikes working in the room that we managed anyway. I am half wondering if I should start recording these to make campaign logs easier.

Yay: Sound effects - gaming is even more fun with The Drama Button, Sad Trombone and Instant Rimshot.

Yay: Awesome anniversary dinner with [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil. Our first date was 13 freaking years ago. We OLD.

I feel like crap today, but I had a hell of a good weekend.

  • Spent Friday night seeing Inglorious Basterds with [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil. Very fun movie.

  • Repaired the Sith robe Saturday

  • Dark Raved Saturday night

  • Celebrated my two year anniversary with [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair Sunday (technically our anniversary is today) with an evening that included great food and board games.

  • Got to see a lot of great people yesterday while relaxing on the beach

  • Came home to Stich and Bitch where the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil had made an awesome dinner and dessert.

  • [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil let me take her keys so that I can get into the appt when I get home tonight

1. I did a last test on my red flat EL wire kit before e-mailing the company with a demand for replacement, and it just worked. No idea what went wrong the first time, but it's clearly functional now. Plans for glowclothes can proceed.
2. My pseudo jambalaya/paella/whatever recipe worked out okay
3. I didn't have to spend 2-3 hours sitting in rush hour traffic today.

I must look authoritative when in my work clothes - two people mistook me for someone who worked at the hospital today. Of course, one of them was later arrested after having twenty one stitches put in his face. The other guy seemed really desperate for pizza.

Good: Got some sewing gadgets last night, including cases to store my thread and bobbins. No more tangled mass in a plastic bag!
Good: Got some work done on shirtmod #2
Good: Got caught up on TV last night (Heroes, Fringe, Dollhouse)
Good: Got my backup strategy figured out, so tar is now happily churning away dumping 250 GB to my windows box. When that's done, I get to fiddle with the RAID and see if I can manage to *not* blow it up.
Bad: Apparently the last ep of Dollhouse isn't going to air. Dear Fox; WTF.
Bad: I got caught up fiddling with the backups, and didn't check the gym's hours until noon. They close at two. So I guess I'm gymming tomorrow, and should get laundry done today.

Now, I have successfully managed pants, and it is time to go get some lunch.

When you're in a bad mood and the world seems awful, come up with just... three... good... things.

  1. New music! I went on an itunes spree after grumpmas, and I'm especially loving the new Voltaire stuff I got (especially Ooky Spooky and Now and Then). "Death Death (Devil Devil Evil Evil Song)", "Coin Operated Goi", and "Zombie Prostitute" make me laugh, while "Goodnight Demonslayer" and "Happy Song" are touching.

  2. Dancing! I got to go out dancing for hours Saturday, and I can still walk today. While Savage closing is sad, dancing makes me happy. I'm also going to be signing up for a Contact Improv class, so I'll finally learn how to dance with a partner.

  3. Productivity! I managed to spend some of my time on vacation learning new skills, finishing a skirt mod, and getting the cutting done for another project. I also managed to get out of bed and out the door for work early this morning. I would have arrived early, too, if it hadn't been for the intersection of Bathurst and Eglinton being closed.

  1. This will be my last week on-call for $OLDSYSTEM. I am not going on-call for $NEWSYSTEM until after I come back from Kaleidoscope. I will miss the pager pay, but will not miss people pestering me. I'm going to start leaving the laptop at work. Even when I go back on call, it'll only be one week in three.

  2. I snuck out this afternoon and went for a walk along the shore of gooseshit pond here at work. I picked up a pile of big goose feathers (found feathers have always seemed a little magical to me). I walked past a heron wading aroudn the pond, and found a couple dead fish. I had no idea there were *fish* in there. Well, I saw two dead ones, so perhaps there isn't, anymore, but that does expalin the heron. It's nice to get a little bit of connection to nonhuman life.

  3. There is talk of *not* having us all stay until 7:30 pm tonight. And next week should be back to normal hours.

Good: I think this cold is mostly done.

Bad: I think the pharmacist gave me the wrong pills last night. They look different than my usual meds, and have a number on them that doesn't match anything that should be in the dosage. I'll be going back to check in a bit.

Good: My Cthulu carols are in! I will go get them when I go to get my drugs fixed.

Bad: Kareoke at work

Good: Leaving work early.

Bad: I think taking the wrong meds this morning has left me a tad out of whack.

Good: Wintersong tonight

Good: Mulled beer tonight

ETA: Yup, they gave me the wrong dosage. I have the right pills now, but that does explain why I'm so tired and stupid today.

Also, my Cthulu Carols came with song books!!!! And a Tentacle Stocking!

I have had myself one damned good birthday.

I spent the entire day wandering the city, meeting friends who bought me food and/or alcohol. Seriously.

* Carribean breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] ice_scratchin_b
* Stopped to buy myself a whack of comic books
* Lunch with [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair
* Went to the pub to have hot chocolate with bailey's, where the hot waitress chatted me up over the comic I was reading (Buffy Season 8)
* Met [livejournal.com profile] pez_minotaur for a long trip through the Summerhill LCBO. I decided that I wouldn't buy 30 year old scotch. It costs around $300-400. Even if I could convince myself to buy it, I'd never let myself drink it. So, after a pass through the tasting tower, I got a bottle of ardbeg and a bottle of glen scotia instead.
* Then we went back to the pub so Pez could have lunch. He got me brie, beer and ice cream.
* Back home, [livejournal.com profile] neuqdrazil took me out for a swanky dinner up the street.

We finished up with Heroes and cuddles. I am very pleased with my birthday. :)

Also: thank you to everyone who has wished me a happy birthday in all the various media!

I got a lot of what I needed last night and this morning. I'm in a much better mood today.

I have a couple remaining itches. I should be able to get those scratched this weekend, though. Among them, doing some more creative work; I have some GameNerd illustrations pending, and could stand to pick up some material for more sewing projects.

I definitely needed a hard, angry workout yesterday, and I got one.

Good things from today;

  • The caf had "Indian Lentil soup" which was actual tadka daal, one of my favourites, and also allowed me to continue my minimal meat week.

  • Despite insufficient sleep last night, I'm not especially tired today.

  • Figure drawing last night! Imposter syndrome kept mostly quiet.

Very short workout tonight; not enough sleep last night, and my legs are loudly proclaiming the effectiveness of last night's workout.

( May. 10th, 2007 03:18 pm)

  • I'm moving to a new desk next week, which means I am kicked out at noon for the movers to come in. Free afternoon!

  • It looks like the weight I put on while recovering from the hip issues is sliding off at an acceptable rate.

  • If all goes well, I will have a new pair of me-made pants by the end of the night!

I'm going to have to cross my fingers that traffic is light tonight - I forgot my sewing stuff at home, so I'll have to go get it before going to class, which may or may not be tight timewise, depending on traffic.

Still have not made it through an entire day without hitting fever territory. The fevers are getting milder and less frequent, but still coming. I am getting very tired of the inside of my apartment.

Made it out briefly today, found some cheap silver earrings (on Bloor near Bathurst - thanks [livejournal.com profile] olletho!), then grabbed some unsatisfying Indian buffet and came home exhausted.

Good things;

  • Having downloaded much TV to watch before getting sick

  • The return of the appetite - buzzard hut on the way.

  • At least this hit in a week that was already low on plans

My LJ's been mostly content free lately. I've been in a pretty foul mood, and trying to avoid whiny posts. Without dwelling on the reasons for my funk, I will just say that there were a fair number of reasons.

Things took a turn for the better last week. [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil and I got some much needed processing done, and while we didn't come to any resolutions, the discussions cleared the air and significantly lowered my stress levels.

I've got vacation time starting in two days, and my shiny new work laptop has returned to me. Planned implementations that would have required significant outlays of unpaid overtime were cancelled.

I had a very good weekend, starting with a first date with someone shiny, moving on to a Saturday filled with parties, massages and sushi, wrapping up with one of the most low stress family holiday gatherings I can recall.

I've got a good week ahead of me, with promising amounts of slack and socializing. Most of my GrumpMas stuff is done and out of the way.

My life, it does not suck.

Three good things;

  1. More lanes reopened on the 401 - traffic was actually good this morning.

  2. Free cake day. Since not many people showed up, I ended up with a hunk of cake almost as big as my head. I ate it anyway.

  3. My personal trainer called in sick, so I don't have to feel so guilty about eating a block of cake the size of my head when I go to the gym.

Three good things;

  1. The lanes closed for "summer" construction on the 401 are fianlly starting to open up again. Traffic has become slightly better as a result.

  2. Work's contingency testing has been moved into the new year. So my November weekends are safe once again.

  3. Someone at work brought me a piece of yummy home made struedel this morning.

After a week in a black mood, I'm doing better today.

good things;

  • The new server is up and running, and has enough of the config done that I'm pulling my mail down onto it, instead of using webmail. This pleases me. I'm also happy to have 250 GB of storage now, so I can rip those new CDs I have from the past 6 months and actually listen to them, as soon as I meddle with my iTunes DB.

  • Bday dinner tonight for [livejournal.com profile] themusesbitch - Ethiopian House!

  • Date with the Lizard afterwards!

  • Date Friday!

  • Date Saturday!

  • Even with the nights out Monday and tonight, I've managed to hit the gym every day this week.

Now I just wait for my web code to be deployed to production so I can confirm it and go downtownwards.

I'm in a much better mood today, in no small part to a couple of exceptionally kind people who put up with me being pouty and sullen yesterday.

It is, I think, time for more good things;

  1. I filled up on gas at 75 cents/litre last night, so this week's gas was roughly $10 cheaper than it's been recently.

  2. I won two free guestlist spots for Ayria on Friday. I need to ping a couple more people to see if anyone wants to go with me.

  3. The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil took pity on cranky me, and had dinner, a glass of wine and Veronica Mars waiting for me when I got home.

Still no joy on the sleep front - woke up at 5:30 this morning, 30 min before my alarm, and over an hour before sunrise.
curgoth: (Default)
( Jul. 30th, 2006 08:30 am)

  1. I slept!

    A full eight hours even!

  2. I have air conditioning. This directly contributed to point #1

  3. I have shiny gunmetal toenails.

Now to pack up my too-spicy curry (this year's batch of imported chana masala had heat in it, apparently), and try to rebuild the mask.
curgoth: (Default)
( Jul. 5th, 2006 10:49 am)
Good Things;

  • My back is doing much better - I don't need the walking stick today, nor the robaxacet. I expect to be well enough to get back to the gym by the end of the week.

  • I got a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] corbet that made me go *squee*

  • Several big question marks are resolving into answers.

  • Tonight, games!

I decided I wanted a little more lunch, so I went to the fridge to grab some salad.

When I opened the fridge, the milk fell out, spilling a good two or three cups of milk on the floor. I grumbled, and started to clean it up. When I reached for the cleaning spray, I knocked a pile of dishes of the counter onto a corningware that was sitting on the floor. One bowl shattered, and the corningware was cleanly sliced in two. The lid for the coringware exploded.

I cleaned all that up. I finally got my salad. And the heavy glass bowl that did in the corningware doesn't seem to have even a crack on it. Thankfully, I was still wearing my combat boots when that happened. (see? three good things)

The storm is getting heavier and closer. I'm still outside, but the wind shifting may finally drive me indoors.
