As part of my ongoing, inevitable, regrettable hippification, I am considering buying non-boot footwear for the summer. Something possibly in the sandal family. The last time I wore sandals, they were plastic k-mart flip flops when my age was in single digits.

I am, of course, still me, and don't want something like birkenstocks. However, I'm tired of wearing hot combat boots in summer, and taking longer to do up my boots than it takes to put on the entire rest of my outfit. So, I want some kind of summer footwear that's a) fairly easy to put on and take off, b) allows for greater airflow than combat boots, and c) looks good.

I've been looking at the Vibram Five Toes with the instep strap. Anyone know of other good looking sandal relatives I should be considering? Is it, for example, worth combing the stores on Yonge for some kind of gothy sandal with spikes on or something?

Cory Doctorow coming to Toronto this Friday

I am not sure if I'm going to go to this. My Friday's more or less open at this point, though, so it's a definite possibility.

[livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil and I are thinking about going camping on the weekend of July 17/18. Any suggestions on where good places to go are? We went to Rockwood last year, and while it was nice, we feel like we pretty much did everythign to do there last time. We also ended up having the flodo lights from the bathrooms pointing at our camp site, so our spot was overly well lit for camping.

I am really upset about this. Local SF author Peter Watts was beaten, pepper sprayed and arrested by US border guards while trying to cross back into Canada. For, basically, asking why his car was being searched.

I have plans to attend ACUS and Notacon this year.

Right now, I am really upset about this, and seriously considering cancelling any and all travel to the US. We will see how I feel in a week or so.

Also, an article from one of the students currently in the class.

Maybe some day I will even have the courage to go to a jam instead of just the classes.
I am trying to figure out my vacation time for next year. Because hey, the earlier I book it, the less chance I have of being turned down because someone else got it first.

I'm trying to think of events to try to hit in 2010. My list so far:

Anything else I should be considering? I'm up to 20 days of vaction a year, so in theory I could do *all* the stuff on the list currently, though I might want to save *some* vacation time for stuff that's not a convention of some sort (and that calculation assumes time taken for grumpmas visiting).

Reminder: The next God Save the Queen Nano-Victorian Future sessions are October 4th and November 22nd.
First, a reminder; the next Nano-Victorian Future session is Sunday September 13th.

Next, advancement; I have been convinced that advancement should be higher. So, every session everyone gets 2 points, even if they don't attend. There have been three sessions, so every one gets 6 points. In addition, if one does contributions in between sessions, one gets a point for each media. So, if you do five drawings (or one), that is one point. If you also do an in character journal, a campaign log or a wiki entry, you get another.

[livejournal.com profile] sabotabby's art contributions have been added to the wiki, so a number of characters now have portraits.

Finally, planning for future sessions:

I am proposing October 4th and November 22nd for game sessions, again starting around 2. Does that work for folks?

This sunday at Beta Colony is random games day. There will be games. Maybe board games, maybe role-playing games that are not the Nano-Victorian Future. But, games of some description.

ETA:starting at 2pm, more or less.

The Toronto Steampunk Society is having a "Promenade and Picnic" Sunday May 17th from 10am to 5pm. From 10-1, it's wandering in a disorganised fashion through St. Lawrence Market (south side). At 1, wander up to Allen Gardens for a picnic.

For those to whom I mentioned a photoshoot at Casa Loma on the 31st, that event has been cancelled, apparently because Casa Loma cahrges extra for photoshoots.

Oof. that's now two uses of the inhaler in one day. Not good. Blood pressure's also still too high, though that may be the inhaler's fault. Right now, I am waiting for the rush from the inhaler to wear off so I can fall asleep.

On the plus side, I made it to the gym today.
On the down side, I jogged a bit too much, and have a sore ankle. No more jogging this week.
On the plus side, my back is less sore than it was yesterday.

Stitch and Bitch / open house is tomorrow. From 1pm on, stop by and hang out. If enough people are interested, I have the stuff to make a tofurkey dinner. If not, it'll all freeze just fine. Depending on what people feel like, there could be movies or board games as well.

Stitch and Bitch is ON for Thanksgiving Monday this weekend. I'll be home and fighting with my dressmaker's form, hopefully actually doing things with it.

Doors open at noon, until I kick you out. There may well be board games and such as well. All are welcome.

Voltaire is playing Savage Garden. I love Voltaire! He's never played Toronto before.

That is the night I am seeing Avenue Q with [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil.

I am sad that I will be missing Voltaire.

[livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair and I are planning to hit a patio somewhere tomorrow evening. Current front-runners are The Rebel House in Rosedale and Allen's on the Danforth.

Anyone want to come along? Any other location suggestions?

I'm going to call some time tomorrow and see if they'll take reservations.
