Camping sites?

neeuqdrazil and I are thinking about going camping on the weekend of July 17/18. Any suggestions on where good places to go are? We went to Rockwood last year, and while it was nice, we feel like we pretty much did everythign to do there last time. We also ended up having the flodo lights from the bathrooms pointing at our camp site, so our spot was overly well lit for camping.

What type of camping? Are we talking "I've got a cooler in the trunk of my car that's full of eggs and fresh milk" or "I've got a seal bag hanging in a tree that's full of instant oatmeal and powdered milk"?

For the former, in the past I've enjoyed staying at Bon Echo. If you want epic beach days, Long Point is also good. The shallow water of Lake Erie makes for warm water, and it's the softest, deepest sand I've ever walked on. Bruce Peninsula National Park has nice-ish sites, and some of the most epic hiking trails you can find in Southern Ontario, but Georgian Bay will still be very cold in mid-July.

If you're going the wilderness route, Algonquin is an obvious answer. The further you can get away from the Hwy 60 corridor, the better. Killarney is beautiful, but further away.

Definitely more of an eggs-and-milk kind of trip - Liz and I aren't super experienced campers. I found my excursion to near-Algonquin to be a little too lacking in amenities, and have come to the conclusion that I draw the line at having at least an outhouse/port-a-potty. Plus it's only going to be one weekend, so pretty much everything should be fine in the cooler. If we got dry ice we could take ice cream!

A lot of State Parks in the US are very nice, depending on your feelings about crossing the border. I won't do it any more, but I have nothing but praise about the State Parks.

My family used to camp at Point Farms quite a lot. It's very beautiful - and has flush toilets and showers. There were a couple of particularly secluded spots we tried to get every year. I could ask my parents which they were, if you're interested.

Tod and I are going up to the cottage that weekend. We were considering leaving early Saturday from Maine, staying in Algonquin Saturday night, and then going on to the French River Sunday, with the goal to arrive well before sunset so we can make it upriver. However, we could be influenced to choose something else that's not too hard to get to vaguely between Maine and the French River, if it meant meeting up with friends, too.
