While in Ktown for the weekend, we stayed with the Lizrents. The Lizrents have a cat. A sweet, pretty, stupid cat with long hair. This means that my allergies start to overwhlem whatever anti-allergen I throw at them after a while. To survive, I bring out the nuclear option - stimulants. Pseudoephedrine and caffeine keep me perky and breathing despite the cat.

The downside is that I don't sleep well with all that in my system.

Sunday, I loaded up with tea and advil cold+sinus to get to "normal". Then we left and headed home. By the time we got there, I was bouncing off the walls. My stomach is also unhappy, whether due to turkey or caffeine (or egg nog) I am not sure.

I only got about 4 hours of sleep last night.

Yule vigil (staying up from sunset to sunrise tonight) is going to be *fun*! I'm hitting caffeine now to make it through the day. I don't want to touch stimulants after sunset, since it feels like cheating. If I start nodding off, though, I may cheat with some absinthe.

I slept poorly last night - went to bed at 11, up again at midnight, back to sleep at 1-2, t hen up again at 5:30 before finally getting out of bed around 6:15.

Today was mildly productive at work.

Meetings ran late enough to put me an hour late getting to the gym, so I decided to go home instead.

On getting home, I decided to clean up a bit, then try to be productive.

While cleaning up, an entire shelf of vinegar, oil and soy sauce bottles collapsed when I bumped it trying to put away recycling. Miraculously, only one mostly empty bottle of balsamic broke. The down side is that the reason the other bottles didn't break is that they bounced off something soft before hitting the ground - namely my head and my right hand.

Clearly this is a sign that I should just microwave some dinner and spend the night curled up in the office doing nothing more complicated than drinking vodka.

Voltaire kicked serious ass! He actually got a Toronto crowd singing and dancing! The singing took a little encouragement, but he got us going.

Tomorrow will hurt.

I hope it will hurt especially for the jackass with big hair who kept moshing inappropriately, and for his friends who kept encouraging him to ram into people who clearly weren't into that sort of thing.

Two days in a row now of waking up around 5 and staying that way. I've been waking up around 5 for a couple weeks, but mostly I've been able to get back to sleep until my alarm goes off at 6. Not this week, apparently. Yesterday I got out of bed at 5:30 and puttered around, ending up leaving at roughly my normal time. Today it was 5:10, and I got myself into work for 7:30, even after stopping at starbucks for a white mocha thingy.

Tonight is Voltaire! I am looking forward to it, but not to how wiped I will be tomorrow. I think if all goes well I will be in need of beer after work tomorrow night. Fionn McCool's has happy hour from 4 until 7 on Fridays... and if all goes according to plan I will be able to hit the gym during the day.

Going back to Voltaire, I still need to decide what to wear tonight. I haven't been able to find my black cravat since Montreal - not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, since I can just make a new one, but I doubt I'll have time to do so tonight.

I feel a strange need to own more pinstriped clothing.

Spent my Saturday night at work doing a contingency flip. Miraculously, it went off without a hitch.

I consumed way too much caffeine, because I expected that something would go wrong and I'd be working well into the daylight hours.

So now I am home, and can't sleep.

And now I kill time until the lattes wear off enough to let me sleep.

Point form post!

  • Spent time sewing last night. Made myself a pocket full of fail. The snaps were too loose (apparently they need a reinforcing layer of fabric), and I mounted them too low on the pocket back. And the straps I made, planning to turn them inside out, did not turn inside out. I cut a new pocket back, straps and reinforcing strips, and will take another shot at pouches tonight.

  • When I'm waiting for code to compile, etc., I am geeking out about White Wolf's Scion. Anyone know of a good site for Norse words/phrases?

  • Yesterday, I woke up at 4:30 am with a splitting headache, and couldn't get back to sleep. I woke up at 4:30 again today, but no headache, so I passed out again. My body is trying to recalim the lost sleep from yesterday. Horrible chemistry has been invoked.

  • I also need to remember to go through my sarongs some night this week and see which ones need to have ties added.

  • According to the Weather network, the forecast temperatures for Fest is now NaN C, for the entire 14 days.

  • As further evidence of my neural degredation, I find I am growing to quite like Old Krupnik.

  • I need a vacation.

Joints hurt today. My fingers are swollen enough that I actually had to take my ring off. Slept like crap. Humidity and heat - DO NOT WANT. Taking robaxacet for the joint and muscle pain, and tea for the slept like crap and the robaxacet drowsiness. Also, work's dress code is really dumb on days like this - long pants and button down shirts in this weather is just mean.

It rained hard engouh last night that the sub basement parking garage (where my spot is) flooded. When I got home last night there was enoguh water that it was an inch over the elevator door. I walked up one floor to get the elevator.

This morning, the water level had lowered, but half the garage is still underwater. Fun! the humidity is hihg enough that the rain droplets on the car from last night were still there.

On closer inspection, the elevator sign about the scary guy is much worse than I first thought. The guy is known to police, and hung around for two hours after being refused entry to our building after making an indecent proposal to a woman entering the building. This guy apparently does this to neighbourhoods, lurks around trying to get into buildings. There is a warrant for his arrest from previous lurking. If we see him, we're supposed to go inside and call the cops, and NOT tell the guy we're doing so.

On the plus side, a gazebo has been obtained.
I keep waking up around 4 am, then spending the remainder of the morning tossing and turning until my alarm goes off. Not quality sleep. It does make me more likely to remember dreams, though.

This would be payback for all the people whose sleep I stole Sunday night. Work woke me up at 4:21 this morning. There are some things that have to happen before it's going to be resolved, so I know I'm going to get called back again some time soon. I don't think there's any point in trying to go back to sleep, so I'm going to go shave...
Weekend scoring:

WIN:

  • Got some sleep Friday, got enough sleep Saturday.

  • No caffeine since Friday.

  • Brunch on patio Sunday morning.

  • The riding boots are actually quite comfortable if I leave the orthotics out.

FAIL

  • Was on at Saturday night event for maybe 20 minutes; long enough to change clothes, so a single circuit of the place, and decide that the light and heat were making me feel like puking, so went home to bed.

  • Got sunburnt while having brunch on a patio Sunday morning.

I'm going to try to detox a bit this week; no alcohol, no caffeine, easy on the sugar. My kidneys/liver are kind of sore after the beating I gave them in the past three weeks, so a little time to recover seems like a good idea. This also means, of course, that I have to actually get enough sleep if this is going to work...

And now, back to the work I don't want to be doing.

Dear Universe,

My body has hit it's exhaustion limit. The shaking hands, stomach ache and headache would seem to indicate that I can't push myself any further with legal chemicals. I should not be able to fall asleep at my desk with two pots of tea in me.

Looking at my weekend schedule, I see nothing in there that would prevent me from getting three solid nights' worth of sleep.

My request to you, Universe, is that you do not produce anything further to keep me from sleeping. No more surprise alarm clocks, early rising children, work pages or middle of the night hiccough attacks. I don't think this is an unreasonable request. I look forward to your co-operation in this endeavour.

Sincerely,

Me.

Went to bed a little late last night. Slept better than I have in a while. Naturally, work woke me up early with the pager. On my third cup of tea now. doom!

I'm looking at another week of possible death march, here. Through a series of unfortunate twists of fortune, the weekend left me with a bigger sleep deficit than I went in with.

I'm throwing things at my brain chemistry just to try to keep it reacting instead of shutting down.

While I'm hoping to keep on top of things, if this week ends up being like last week, I'm probably going to end up flakier than a delicious well-made pie crust. So, I apologise in advance for all the things I'm going to forget to do.

On the upside, I did have a really good weekend, for all that the conspiracy of fates kept me from sleeping.

On a final note, if you're coming to stitch and bitch, we have food; there are beans and rice, spicy red lentil pie, and a bit of leek tart.

This post has nothing to do with pants.

Last night I cancelled my date due to exhaustion. Nautrally, sleep hated me and I ended up bouncing unsteadily off the walls until nearly 1am due to yesterday's caffination. Naturally, today requires more caffeine. *sigh*

In more positive news, my alienware machine arrived yesterday. It's very pretty, and alienware make well-designed machines. I'm seriously impressed by their attention to detail. The only downside (beyond a slightly emabrassing mistake *I* made) is that the pretty box is too big. It is too tall for the PC shelf in my desk, and with it under my desk, I can't get the chair as close to the desk as I would prefer. I'll figure something out eventually. Maybe even something that *doesn't* require power tools.

I has a plan for Hallowe'en. Naturally, it's changed in my head so that it requires sewing something I don't have a pattern for. However: SCIENCE!

I slept poorly last night. Then, after oversleeping by half an hour, I had another dizzy spell while sitting on the bed. Liz convinced me that driving while prone to sudden vertigo might be dumb, and so I called in sick and went back to bed.

Some time later, either the noise from the wind or the door outside my appt to the stairwell convinced me that someone had walked into our apartment. I tried to shout "Hey" to scare the intruder away while I fought for consciousness. Needless to say, there was no one there.

Then I went back to bed and slept until noon.

Now, I go eat something and see if I start to feel less like I've been beaten about the head with a bat. If not, I'll call the doctor.

I've been worn out all day.

I had a big mug of tea.

Naturally, now I cannot sleep. Even a bit. Even booze has failed me! Between the coughing and the caffeine, there is no sleep.

A spoonful of honey has been taken. Let's see how round two goes...

Tomorrow will hit me like a fist in the face, I fear.

Time to grab 4 hours of sleep then hit the road!
Moving from one place to the other has not been kind to me today.

Sleep now, I hope.

I am burned out on fun. Since I got back from camping, I've been going to bed earlier and earlier, and waking up still tired. I had a very full weekend of excitement planned, but as the weekend progresses, I continue to be exhausted, and am considering bailing on both Castle in the Sky and Dark Rave in favour of crashing at home. Part of it, I suspect, is that in the previous two weeks I used chemicals, mainly a vast amount of caffeine, to keep myself going, and my body hasn't forgiven me yet; I pushed the caffeine limits too far, and have the chest pain (on the right side) to prove it.
