Every now and then, I go through the fridge and get rid of stuff that has gone off.

Apparently, this time I waited too long.

Things I found in the fridge tonight:

Blergh.

I should be making soup.

Having an asthma attack intense enough that even after 2 puffs on the inhaler I could breathe, coughing hard enough to drop me to my knees. Grabbed my coat and ran outside - if it's allergies from HVAC mold clean air will help.

ETA: definitely allergies. Went back inside to get my stuff, was wheezing before I got to my desk. A coworker carried my stuff out for me. Breathing got better once I got outside. Now sitting in my car letting breathing get back to normal before driving home. I hate when the air tries to kill me.

I am definitely sick - the fever has started in earnest now, in addition to the constant gut issues. This is definitely what Lizard has. So at least we know it's not an ulcer - yay?

I am amused and annoyed that the biggest issue in getting sick for me is that I don't think I can justify going to the gym tonight.

When I get it in my head to be stubborn, I do stupid things. Case in point - I've been sick for over a week and a half. I stubbornly decided that I should be able to get better on my own. I haven't. I am, in fact, sicker now than I was a week ago. I should have gone to the doctor last week, but I decided that, having taken a sick day the week before, I could not justify taking time from work to go. So instead I went to work on massive amounts of advil/tylenol to mask the recurring fevers. Now, it's the weekend, and I'm having to bail on planned social outings because I am, shockingly, still sick and feverish. Having finally given up, I am admitting that I need antibiotics, but it's the weekend, so I can't do anything about it.

Not my smartest move.

Ah well. Back to the couch to curl under blankets and watch BSG.

We at Beta Colony have a fever. Things we have discovered that are not effective prescriptions for our fever:

  • More cowbell

  • In fact, any amount of cowbell

  • Battlestar Galactica

  • Going to work

  • Chocolate

  • Neal Stephenson

  • Batman

  • Doing laundry

Today I woke up feeling awful. Unhappy insides, sore throat, no voice and a sinus ick of some kind. I still figured I should go to work, until I heard the traffic and weather reports. And Zil told me to stay home. So, I worked from home today, and was probably more useful than if I had stayed home.

On the down side, I skipped the gym, though I managed to eat fairly sanely. The chest freezer is starting to pay off when I had to toss the first dish of leftovers from the fridge because on closer inspection, the smell was *not* garlic. The freezer thankfully had some older frozen leftovers that were quite edible.

I'm also very glad that [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil stashed home-made ginger syrup in the fridge, right next to the lemon juice.

Weird morning. Near home, traffic was far lighter than it usually would be at that time of day. On the 401, things got ugly, due to a big accidnet closing multiple lanes westbound near winston churchill, which is the exit after mine on the highway. I got off early, and found the alternate routes also insanely packed, and then got trapped at an intersection with seperate left turn signal lights that had my group of left-turners miss an entire light cycle.

When I got in, the walk from the parking lot to the office was enough to have the poor air quality set off my mild asthma - by the time I got upstairs, I sounded like Darth Vader. During his death scene. I pulled out the inhaler, so now I can mostly breathe okay, but I have a splitting headache, my heart rate is up, and the twitchy feeling in my veins suggests that the blood pressure jumped up, too. Breathing's still not 100%, and I feel like crud. If I don't start to feel better soon, I'm going to go back home, assuming I'm safe to drive.

On the plus side; I went out for drinks with [livejournal.com profile] captainmushroom last night at what the Toronto Star calls "probably the most authentic Irish pub in the city".

Also, Zil and I are off to see Hellboy tonight. Hellboy! And apparently The Dark Knight actually lives up to the hype - the CBC's Jesse Wente (sp?) called it "not just the best superhero movie of the summer, but the best superhero movie of all time". Apparently Ledger's performance is amazing. I look forward to that, but I'm not going opening weekend.

The doc gave me antibiotics and an advair inhaler for the Ick. They both list dizziness as a possible side effect - I'm defintely foggy-headed. I'm also supposed to avoid dairy and advil while I'm on them.

I noticed something this morning; we have both black rice and black lentils. Clearly I need to do something with this.

My computer works! I can sync my phone and ipod again!

For Sheridan people; take a look here, and then look here. (Sheridan is a school known for art and animation. It was locked down because a student with a tripod was mistaken for a gunman.)

I have a lot to do at work today. But no brain to do it with.

Tonight is yummy anniversary dinner with my LizardLove. I think I will risk the side effects of dairy consumption for dinner.

Still sick. Cold meds are nice, but I have no brain today. I am working on keeping the cough drugged into submission until the doc on Thursday - last night while driving int he blizzard I had a coughing fit so intense my vision went to blue stars for about 5 seconds. I worked very hard on just not coughing after that.

I just realised something. I got a small bonus from work (about 25% of what it would be if the company wasn't doing abysmally), but that's money I wasn't expecting to get. I *could* spend that money on some ties and cravats and maybe a frock coat from the Gentleman's Emporium... This cannot end well. But... puff ties! Cravats! Gloves! Trousers! Frock coats! I should be glad, at least, that I don't partcularly like any of their waistcoats.

Saved! They won't ship to Canada.

I should be getting work done, but I has no brane.

After taking myself out to dinner, I am finally home safe. I had to take a somewhat circuitous route from the 401, since I was following the plows, and there were 4 foot tall snowbanks blocking the on ramp to the Allen. Thankfully, someone had bulled through the similar snow bank at Avenue, so I made it off the highway, where I followed a van that did not have its rear window defrost on, and was not using its rear window wiper. It made up for that deficiency by driving 20 kph straddling two lanes.

I am glad to be home. Now to see if the cold meds are strong enough to keep the cough of D00m at bay long enough to sleep.

Gooooood workout tonight.

I have coco camino spicy hot chocolate. I find I acutally like it more than the dagobah xocolatl; the former has more chili/cinnamon/ginger, while the latter has better chocolate.

I had hoped that the weather and roads would have improved by now. Now so luck. I'm farting around at work reading Lj and Girl Genius while I finish my hot chocolate. I think next I will go out, clean off my car and take a short drive to find somewhere to eat while I still can.

My lungs aren't very happy with me; thankfully I appear to have a doctor's appointment Thursday morning, so I can talk to the doc about the cough that's now in it's 4th or 5th week, and worsening - plus whatever the infection is seems to have spread to my eye.

Now, to go face the frost giants.

I'm finally starting to feel human again. Hopefully the recent scariness has mostly been due to being even more exhausted than I thought. I could easily go back to sleep for a few hours now, though that would ruin me for sleep tonight. I think, instead, that I will sit here and play civ 4, or possibly start watching dexter.

Ugh

( Jan. 7th, 2008 10:11 am)
I am officially sick and tired of being sick and tired. I only seem to have enough juice to make it through 50-60% of a day at this point. I have little brain, and have become extremely flakey, missing phone calls and e-mails as I wander about in a daze.

Even with the e-mail from my mother, and a reminder from my phone and e-mail, I mamaged to not call my brother to wish him a happy birthday yesterday. I am the worst non-abusive family person evar.

To doom list )

I can has Fevar. :/

Weird, fucked up dreams last night, wherein I was ridden by an alien intelligence. It was metal-based, and green-mossy. Sometimes, I just had gods in my head, which was easier since they could at least understand the concept of a human. Fever dreams is spooooky. At least there was no wrestling Pierre Trudeau for the Canadian flag this time.

Fortunately, teh drugs are working, and I have had pretty ladies looking after me.

In other news, I survived grumpmas, spent too much money when I used my gift certs (since I'm here already...), and have been spending nearly all my computer time playing civ 4.

I owe peoples e-mails, which will prolly happen either tonight or tomorrow, depending on intensity of fever.

No, not the fun kind of drugs.

I hab a code. Sinus ick, coughing, etc.

As part of this, I've been taking dayquil to keep me functional at work. I noticed that they have a new formula; instead of pseudoephedrine, they've got phenylephrine hydrochloride in them, which is a) a somewhat less good decongestant and b) a much weaker stimulant and c) cannot be used to make crystal meth, which is why the formula changed.

This is pleasing to me, since it means I don't have to worry about it keeping me up. Except that the cold is hitting me in such a way that I'm finding I now need to supplment the dayquil with tea to keep my eyes open. I'm definitely happy to have the option of controlling my stimulant intake, though.

I appear to be sick. :( There will be a lunch time trek to hunt the wild dayquil. I am hoping my strategy of beating colds to death at the gym will work again. I am just sick enough to be whiny, but still go to work.
