curgoth: (sick)
([personal profile] curgoth Jan. 17th, 2009 06:02 pm)
When I get it in my head to be stubborn, I do stupid things. Case in point - I've been sick for over a week and a half. I stubbornly decided that I should be able to get better on my own. I haven't. I am, in fact, sicker now than I was a week ago. I should have gone to the doctor last week, but I decided that, having taken a sick day the week before, I could not justify taking time from work to go. So instead I went to work on massive amounts of advil/tylenol to mask the recurring fevers. Now, it's the weekend, and I'm having to bail on planned social outings because I am, shockingly, still sick and feverish. Having finally given up, I am admitting that I need antibiotics, but it's the weekend, so I can't do anything about it.

Not my smartest move.

Ah well. Back to the couch to curl under blankets and watch BSG.

Depends on what you've got. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections, not viral. If you have a viral infection (most colds and flues) taking antibiotics will only hamper your own immune system.

I've had doctors prescribe antibiotics for colds that wouldn't go away for a long time and they didn't end up helping much.

In that case...enjoy your drugs! And get better already, I hate when people have seen more Battlestar than I have.

I finally went to a doctor yesterday (a walk-in clinic on St. Clair, since I kept getting voice mail when trying to call my own doc), and I should have done it a lot sooner too. No, antibiotics don't work on viruses, but a lot of repsiratory infections are bacterial. In generally, if you're coughing up yellow things, it's usually bacterial... Also, codeine cough syrup FTW.

There are some clinics open on the weekend - you might want to check into that. I'm pretty sure Kettu went to a walk-in clinic around Queen and Spadina on a Sunday when she had strep throat at one point.

Oh, you poor silly silly monkey.

(((((((((great big hugs)))))))))

Rest. Stay away from work. Go to the doctor. Get better.

Love you.

Is there any thing I can do? Bring? I suspect not, since I know Liz is taking excellent care of you, but if there's anything, please let me know.
