A list of ongoing creative sewing projects, in no particular order;

  • Great sarong tie review; I have grown gradually fatter since I started wearing sarongs, so the older the sarong, the shorter the ties. The older ones are now too shrot to wear. So, I need to sew on longer ties to the older ones. also, the black sarong I got last year has no ties at all on it.

  • Make two new satin cravats. I have the material, just need to rearrange the living room so that I have the space to measure and cut.

  • Fix both pairs of thai fisherman's pants. The bigger pair have a gaping crotch hole that needs to get patched. Thankfully, the pants came in a bag of the same material, so I have somethign to patch with. The other pair just need to get some sitching replaced.

  • Sew buttons on to pinstripe pants. This is for attaching button braces to. I also need to get at least one more set of button braces.

  • Steampunk Kscope outfit. I'm thinking sarong-weight double-breasted waistcoat over wrap pants or a sarong, big boots, bandana, goggles and leather cuffs. Maybe a cravat, and maybe a standalone collar to go with it above the waistcoat. And the bat-utility belt, of course. Sketching will hopefully happen at lunch time today.

  • polar fleece arm-warmers. These have been sitting in the sewing bin for probably close to two years at this point.

  • Utility belt. Needs more grommets, another pair of pouches and two more belt loops. Also considering making a removable larger pouch to hang down one side to put a paperback in.

  • Raven hoodie. Black hoodie with a raven cut out from an old t-shirt, plus glow in the dark skull and crossbones patches on the arms. I want to lengthen the sleeves with some sort of black and white stripe pattern. Do I want to use alternating strips of black and white sweatshirt material to match the hoodie? Will that result in the white getting greyed out when the hoodie gets washed? What about using white spray paint or screen printing ink to add white stripes to black? I suspect that I will continue to add bits and pieces as I find more neat stuff to sew on to it over time.

  • I should also make a pair or two of gaiters to wear over combat boots etc. They'd also be useful when biking, as long as I made them snug enough.

  • black flannel hakama; because 7 layers of flannel should keep me warm pretty much anywhere... Again, I have the material and a pattern, but no space to lay out the pattern, etc. Also, i still suck at using patterns.

Time to grab 4 hours of sleep then hit the road!

Kscope prep!
Remaining to do;

Make trail mix of proteiny doom
shave
paint toenails
actually drag all this shit to the van

Looking at how much of the space is being taken up by food, we may need to forcefeed people to make sure we can bring [livejournal.com profile] tormenta home!

I'm told the site is pretty full already; [livejournal.com profile] tormenta apparently got us the last space capable of holding 6 people, when one takes into account the palace and gazebo I'm bringing.

Happy discoveries;

  • Found the incense I like hidden on my desk

  • Found my bells!

  • Van secured without problem!

  • Dry ice booked tomorrow morning!

Tomorrow morning, I pick up [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair, and we're off!

So, who do I know who's going to Kaleidoscope? I'm trying to figure out where [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair, [livejournal.com profile] tormenta and I are going to set up. I think the Obstacle Course is a little too busy for my tastes, so I think we're trying to find some other people to share a clearing with.

This year, I will not be bringing the Big Orange Canvas Tent. But I will be bringing the gazebo.

I have a sunburn that is mellowing into a fairly deep (for me) tan, and sun bleached blond in my hair. Who am I, and what have I done with myself? And wear did I leave those feathers I had in my ears?

Now, I am crashing like a crashy thing, and wishing I knew where a little scrap of paper was.

I am back from Kaleidoscope. It was an intense experience in many ways. I got
a lot of things I needed from it, and am not quite ready to be back at work
yet.

We got back a bit past midnight last night. The car hasn't been unpacked yet.
Chat and LJ are still inaccessible from work, and my cell still doesn't have
signal in the office, so e-mail is the only reliable way to get anything to me
between 9 and 5. Drop me a line if there's anything important I need to know
about!

I'm hoping to write up more about my fest later, but now I have to try to
remember how to work again...

This time next week, I will be on vacation, driving towards camping. This makes
me happy.

I still have no LJ at work, so I am really sort of skimming LJ a few times a
week instead of my usual obsessive reading patterns. If there's something
important I need to know about, e-mail me or ping me on instant messaging,
because I may not see an LJ post.

Still to do pre-camping; make curry, freeze curry, see about getting takeout
containers for curry. Buy all other camping food. Complete evil mission.
Pack. Finish mask. Sew ribbons onto sarongs. Order and pick up prescription
refills. Drop off camp stove. Breathe.

It is far too hot.

Nonetheless, I have loot. I now have sleeping bags, coolers, mosquito netting, morepropane and some wee plastic containers. I believe this pretty much finishes the shopping phase, except for food and sarongs.

Boo to insomnia.

In other news, I am planning a shopping trip for Sunday. Anyone want to come with me?

Things I need/want for the downtown leg;

  • cheapass luggage cart

  • rubber soled tabi

  • a new gi, and a pair of kung fu pants

  • sarongs!!

  • ribbon for sarongs

If time allows, there will be a Canadian Tire run, Zellers, and a trip to visit my parents, too.

Since I'll be heading downtown on a sunday, there is a distinct possibility of dim sum or similar goodness.

I have a plan for a costume for the masquerade at KScope. It only quires a very small amount of sewing, and making a new mask... My only concern with my plan is that the wings may not be a good idea near an open flame. Must remember to remove wings before getting drunk.

I still cannot sleep.

So, a while back, I panicked when I realised Kscope hadn't cashed my cheque yet - after the stress surrounding TOKink, where our reg only arrived three days before the con, I'm a little gunshy.

I heard back from the organizer;

The hold is up with me. I will deposit the cheque tomorrow. Thanks for
getting back to me.
By the way you have the honour of being the first to register this year.
Yeah!

So I have the distinction of being the most organized attendee? Egads. (Or, perhaps, simply the most paranoid)

This weekend, to MEC with [livejournal.com profile] mycrazyhair to load up on Camping Stuff - two novice campers, one big store of shiny stuff that we may very well need! Or not! We JUST DON'T KNOW! Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion. If we don't make it back, send reinforcements. Or possibly a moving truck to help haul the gear we've bought.
