So, a while back, I panicked when I realised Kscope hadn't cashed my cheque yet - after the stress surrounding TOKink, where our reg only arrived three days before the con, I'm a little gunshy.

I heard back from the organizer;

The hold is up with me. I will deposit the cheque tomorrow. Thanks for
getting back to me.
By the way you have the honour of being the first to register this year.
Yeah!

So I have the distinction of being the most organized attendee? Egads. (Or, perhaps, simply the most paranoid)

This weekend, to MEC with mycrazyhair to load up on Camping Stuff - two novice campers, one big store of shiny stuff that we may very well need! Or not! We JUST DON'T KNOW! Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion. If we don't make it back, send reinforcements. Or possibly a moving truck to help haul the gear we've bought.

There are holdovers from that - we still use "bathing suit" synonymously with "swim suit". Just, not in this context. :)

They have a belt that shoots a grappling hook and then winches you up. But you have to ask -- it upsets the mountain climbers who like to do things the hard way. Mountain climbers are not Batman.

For the record, there's a camping store across the street from MEC that I like more. It's not the big expedition shoppe across and to the right, it's a smaller store across and (possibly) a little left. They've got basic things like tarps and groundsheets that don't cost an arm and a leg and your first born child. MEC is fantastic, but a little overengineered and overpriced for some items.

The MEC is good for those who are hard core campers. A lot of the stuff is engineered so it'll be sturdy, long-lasting, and especially light for carrying on your back while you hike for miles and miles to get to your campsite/clearing in the woods. That also means pricy. For occasional campers and car campers (people who drive to a campsite), you might want to check out Canadian Tire for reasonable priced tents and other gear. MEC's not bad for camping dishes and cookware though. I wouldn't get that stuff from Crappy Tire. My two cents from having been camping a handful of times.
