Conservative boycott shuts down Afghan detainee hearing - The Globe and Mail

This is really pissing me off.

“It's not the time to be having meetings that are implying, intentioned or not, that Canadians are somehow guilty of war crimes,” Laurie Hawn, the parliamentary secretary for the Defence Minister, said on CTV's Power Play after the aborted meeting.

It's not the time? If Canadians are "somehow" guilty of war crimes, then it bloody well is the time!

"The olypmics are coming" is not an excuse.

I'd also really love to see the Olympics disbanded, if for no other reason than host nations seeming to use it as justification for authoritarian crackdowns and all sorts of crazy shit. Like detaining journalists at the border to make sure they're not planning to write anything negative about the olympics, or forcing the removal of public art critical of the games.

I really need some positive political news. All I'm seeing lately is a boot stomping on a human face, forever.

More from Watts here

And the National Post are now covering it (thanks to Warren Ellis, apparently).

I am really upset about this. Local SF author Peter Watts was beaten, pepper sprayed and arrested by US border guards while trying to cross back into Canada. For, basically, asking why his car was being searched.

I have plans to attend ACUS and Notacon this year.

Right now, I am really upset about this, and seriously considering cancelling any and all travel to the US. We will see how I feel in a week or so.

Dear subconscious,

Are... are you trying to write a book? You know we haven't got the time and energy for that sort of thing. Even if you keep supplying characters, and now a bloody theme.

Honestly.

Some people's brains.

I don't know if this is another "feature" of my weird metabolism, or if this happens to everyone else. Whenever I go for an extended stretch of being exhausted and stressed (or sick), I get a day of overcompensation when that ends. When my body is still amped up on crisis chemicals to combat an exhaustion state that no longer exists.

That's what's going on with me today. I'm wired as though I'd had a handful of amphetamines.

In addition to being wound up, I'm getting some significant vertigo - not quite to the point where I need to hold on to something to stay standing, but not far off. I checked my pulse, and it's up at almost 100 bpm - normal is 60 bpm for me. I don't want to know what my blood pressure is right now.

Eventually, this is going to wear off and I am going to crash, but for now? ZOOOM.

Now to go see if I can concentrate enough to get some resume writing done.
