I am trying to figure out my vacation time for next year. Because hey, the earlier I book it, the less chance I have of being turned down because someone else got it first.

I'm trying to think of events to try to hit in 2010. My list so far:

Anything else I should be considering? I'm up to 20 days of vaction a year, so in theory I could do *all* the stuff on the list currently, though I might want to save *some* vacation time for stuff that's not a convention of some sort (and that calculation assumes time taken for grumpmas visiting).

I've been on vacation for just over 10 hours. So far I have; brutalised many winter holiday themed songs with friends, worn funny hats and danced to a horrible live band with the inimitable MoFo, and had much success in my campaign against the Persians in my game of Civ3. Now I am far too tired and should go to bed.

My week off hasn't gone quite as I'd expected. I've been a lot less active and ambitious than I had been planning to be.

I had figured that I'd at least stay up late goofing around - I only managed to stay up significantly later than normal once. So I've been going to bed at something approaching on time, and sleeping in until 8ish most days. I've been feeling surly and pissy, and, to a certain extent, lonely. I hadn't realised how much I've become the sort of person who feeds on regular contact from other people, even if its only my coworkers. I've been in one of those moods that always makes me think that there should be a long, complicated, hard to translate German word for. Not miserable, but... missing something.

Which isn't to say that there haven't been good points in the week - I've got to spend time with friends I haven't been seeing much of this week. Nor have I been sitting around at loose ends - if anything, I've been surprised just how much time I can fill doing nothing.

We haven't cooked at all this week - we've still got a lot of leftovers from last week, despite me eating out of the fridge all week. I also haven't been to the gym all week. It has occurred to me that part of my moodiness is connected to lack of fresh food and exercise. To that end, I will be shortly heading out to the gym to get some exercise, and to return my obscenely overdue books.

We'll see what effect the exercise has.

What I did with my birthday vacation: part one.

Friday:

Work. Gym. BLUE!

Saturday:

MonkeyLizard Birthday Bash! Much fun was had. Thank you to all who attended.

Sunday:

Post-party dim sum! Birthdays dinner with the 'rents. Hanging with the Bastard.

Monday:

Commuted from Hamilton. Did a lot of Laundry. Learned a lot from Midori and got to see both girlfriends, which made my birthday, as I'd been missing them both badly up to that point in the day.

Tuesday:

Spent the entire day sitting in my bathrobe playing videogames, didn't move from the chair most of the day. Smelled bad.

Wednesday:

Tourist in my own city day - went up the Tower with [livejournal.com profile] webby, walked on the glass floor, and went out for good food. Found a tasty restaurant that includes a $20 prix fixe, has a veggie option on the specials list, and has both Mill St. Coffee Porter and St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout on tap. Stayed up too late goofing around on LJ.

Tomorrow, I hope to go to the gym, since I haven't been at all this week. Then, board games with the Hammer crowd. Friday and Saturday nights are still open - if nothing else materialises Saturday night, I'll likely head down to Savage Garden or FunZenHausLounge.

Will I make it to the gym? A glance at my watch says perhaps not.

And now, to bed.

Way up Way up

Looking down through the glass floor at the CN Tower

I went out with [livejournal.com profile] webby today to be a tourist in my own city - neither of us had ever been up the CN Tower, and so up we went. I'm not quite as scared of heights as I had thought. I managed to walk on the glass floor, though I didn't have the guts to jump up and down on it. I couldn't feel the tower swaying when I was in it, but apparently my body was automatically compensating - when I got back down, I felt like the ground was swaying for about 20 minutes, and was feeling a little nausea as a result.

It was a lot of fun, regardless - thank you, [livejournal.com profile] webby for convincing me to go up, and keeping me company.

I find myself with a weird problem - I have too much vacation time, and nothing to do with it.

I'm going to end up taking off either the week of Nov 28, or the following week (Dec 5) to use up my time before the break I'm taking at xmas. I'm not sure what I'm going to *do* with this week, other than dye my hair some unnatural shade (blue, ideally, but it'll likely depend on what kind of dye I can find when I get around to shopping for it).

Depending on his schedule, I will probably spend a day or two hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] corwin77, possibly taking a road trip to nowhere.

Other than that, I have no idea what to do with the week off. I don't have enough free cash to take an exciting trip to some exotic locale (i.e., anywhere I'd have to get a hotel room), and there isn't really anyone I know who could spend a week with me.

Any suggestions? What should a blue-haired monkey do for his first week of being 28 without spending much money? (comments screened - I'll unscreen most of them unless there's a reason not to)

If all else fails, I can just sit around in my underpants and play videogames and go to the gym, but that would feel rather like a waste of my blue hair. I suppose I could sit around in leather pants and eyeliner playing video games and going to the gym instead...

I also must make a decision on the length of my hair - it is getting to the big mop stage. I'm going to cut it shorter after the blue, but I need to rethink my plan of letting grow out to show off the unnatural colour better. I also still need to decide what colour I can use to cover up the blue/red/whatever, and the fate of the beard.

I want to know what you think.
