I find myself with a weird problem - I have too much vacation time, and nothing to do with it.
I'm going to end up taking off either the week of Nov 28, or the following week (Dec 5) to use up my time before the break I'm taking at xmas. I'm not sure what I'm going to *do* with this week, other than dye my hair some unnatural shade (blue, ideally, but it'll likely depend on what kind of dye I can find when I get around to shopping for it).
Depending on his schedule, I will probably spend a day or two hanging out with
corwin77, possibly taking a road trip to nowhere.
Other than that, I have no idea what to do with the week off. I don't have enough free cash to take an exciting trip to some exotic locale (i.e., anywhere I'd have to get a hotel room), and there isn't really anyone I know who could spend a week with me.
Any suggestions? What should a blue-haired monkey do for his first week of being 28 without spending much money? (comments screened - I'll unscreen most of them unless there's a reason not to)
If all else fails, I can just sit around in my underpants and play videogames and go to the gym, but that would feel rather like a waste of my blue hair. I suppose I could sit around in leather pants and eyeliner playing video games and going to the gym instead...
I also must make a decision on the length of my hair - it is getting to the big mop stage. I'm going to cut it shorter after the blue, but I need to rethink my plan of letting grow out to show off the unnatural colour better. I also still need to decide what colour I can use to cover up the blue/red/whatever, and the fate of the beard.
I want to know what you think.

Be sure to double bleach
Plus, not sure if you've done blue before, but two things to keep in mind are 1) it washes out CONSTANTLY, and fades quickly, so buy lots for touch-ups, and 2) it RUBS OFF on everything. I had my hair blue for a month while I was travelling cross-country with a friend in a train, and since we hadn't bought beds, we slept sitting up together. Every left shoulder on every shirt he owned was blue by the end of the trip from my head leaving its mark. And every guest pillow I slept on was blued all to hell as well. Leave it long to dye it, but trim afterwards so that you don't get the longer blue bits rubbing off on your face. Another option is to go to a salon afterwards and get them to put a clear gloss coat on your hair after it's been dyed. It will preserve the colour longer and less transference issues will occur.
That's my two cents about blue hair.

I can only have blue hair for the duration of the vacation, so I'm not concerned about the fading - I'm expecting it to be bright for a day or two, then be fairly washed out byu the end of the week when I have to put another colour over it. I'm perpared for the blue stains everywhere - that's where having so much black around pays off, since the blue won't show if it stains a lot of my things.

Also, though... go look at my list of things to do when you've got nothing to do. I think one of them involved coffee and people watching with a novel - that's good for one day.
You could coax 5 of your friends to each take one day off and spend it with you.
You could go stay in a Yurt in algonquin. (that's non-trivial, and actually pretty expensive for one person)
Get the materials for a single big project and spend the week on it.
Read War and Peace
Plan next year's vacations - maybe a really big one, so that you know how much you need to save and then you and zil can go together. Like to Mexico or Venezula or something... Or Paris. Or Vancouver. I'm sure you could spend a whole week fantasizing, researching, and planning a vacation.
Now, of course, I'm brainstorming. Expect a further flurry as my ever-churning mind keeps doing this all day.

I think you should keep the beard until you see how it looks with the freaky colour, and then decide whether you should really keep it or not. Personally, I think it will look fine, since I could see your natural hair color being nice with blue, or red. ;)

Unless I get mine that way too... hmmmm..... we could die our hair to match our vests, that would be interesting.
