There's this kid in our neighborhood, somewhere high school aged.

He's nerdy, and a bit creepy; he always has this odd little half smile on his face, and when he moves, he basically puts his head down and charges forward, almost running.

Every time I see him, I want to pull him aside, and talk to him.

You see, back in high school, I was painfully shy, and used to walk around with my eyes downcast, until some day, some guy I'd never met at school stopped me and said "Hey, kid, don't walk around staring at the ground; be proud of yourself! Keep your chin up!"

From that point on, I made a point of trying to keep my eyes up when I walk around, and discovered that it makes a big difference.

If you walk with eyes down, you look like a victim, a social submissive. Eyes up, a predator, a dominant. Especially if you make an effort to stay aware of your surroundings, though that comes more from martial arts training in my case.

I don't know if I could talk to the "creepy" kid well enough to give him the same positive experience I had. Or if he has more deep seated emotional issues than I did.
