Well, that's a shitty way to wake up...
Last night, as we were falling asleep, we heard water running somewhere. It didn't sound like much; at first, I thought that our landlord upstaris was taking a very long leak. We figured it was no big deal, and went to sleep.
This morning, at 6am, Zil got up to go pee. On her way to the bathroom, she yelled "FUCK!"
Half of our bedroom was flooded, the carpet soaked. The closet, which has a floor a centimetre or two lower than the rest of the room, was in a puddle. It turns out that one of the hoses in the laundry room, which is right outside our bedroom, had slipped off, and the washing machine spent the entire night trying to fill itself, while it was instead filling the laundry rom and our bedroom.
The trickling noise was the water going throught the drains under our floor.
I've speant the morning in a half-shicked, half-panicked state. ZIl has been all panic. I was woken from a completely dead sleep, and my brain still hasn't admitted that I'm awake.
We got our landlord, who knew right away that the laundry room was the culprit. He went and got a wetvac to clean the mess, while we tore apart our bedroom to clear all of our furniature and shit away from the wet parts of the room. Fortunately, due to a touch of mildew in the closet, very little of our clothing was touching the floor. The biggest casualty was a half box of books that I've been meaning to sell to a used book store. The world will just half ot live with a few less 30 year old star trek novels.
I haven't yet figured out how I'm goign to get to my dress shirts for work; they're at the bottom of the pile of stuff from the closet. I am energy drained enough that I made a pot of tea this morning; I'm getting to the beyond tired point, and I'll have to putup with the chest pains tomorrow if I want to make it through today. I'd consider calling in sick to work, but I don't want ot be in the appartment for a while.

Did the new computer get wet? Or did the wetness just stick to the bedroom?

You could have called into work sick, and then left the house. Hell, you could have probably said "my apartment flooded during the night, and I'm going to have to take a sick day to take care of it," then gone out.
In any case ... I may not have known the Star Trek books well, but am more than willing to attend the wake.

But yes, the appartment is a disaster now, even more than usual.

Unfortunately, the appartment is is disaster, and most of our time this weekend is going to get spent putting it back together. So we're not going to be in much shape to either host a wake or commute to Hamilton for one.

All in favour of attacking The Den of the MonkeyLizard with hairdriers!

And what needs to get done, cleaning-wise, is stuff that we need to do ourselves, unfortunately - it's mostly going to involve getting rid of stuff.

But thanks for the suggestion, and the offer.

But... attack... with hairdriers....
Now I'm just going to have to go back to raiding coastal villages for their IKEA furniture,
