She looked at him and said "Why do you always look at me like that? Are you still mad at me?"

"Mad at you? No. I don't mean to look at you funny."

"Well, you do. You look all angry or something. "

"No, I was only mad, for maybe a day. Then I blamed myself for a while after that. "

"So you're still beating yourself up over getting rejected a dozen years ago? That's kind of... sad."

"I stopped blaming myself for it a long time ago, too. It's just that I see the world ending in your eyes. When I see you, I die a little inside. "

"That sounds a little melodramatic."

"When two people are in love, they are in a continual state of mutual anhiliation. The destruction of one balances the other - it's dynamic stasis, equal and opposing forces. I don't claim that what I feel when I see you is worthy of being called love. But I know that there is no opposing force in you. Being near you is like falling into nothingness. What you see when I look at you is my acknowledgement of the inevitability of my own obliteration."

"Oh, that would explain it, then," she said, walking away.
