The Opera House really is a lousy venue. Both the sound system and the acoutstics suck. The speakers were certainly loud; my ears were ringing for a bit. But the sound was muddy enough that, when Ronan of VNV Nation was talking, I couldn't understand him. The acoutstics are bad enough that at various points, the drunken frat boys shouting at each other drowned out the band.
The acoustics might be nice if the palce was used as a club, or only filled to about half capacity instead of full. In that case, those who wanted to listen to the music could stand close to the band, and those who qwanted to talk could do so at the back of the place.
When the place is sold out though, the folks at the back of the venue lose out.
