Home from Savage Garden. Pleasantly, the more I exercise, the less my leg hurts - no pain at all at the moment.

I went and danced almost entirely non-stop for close to three hours. As is normal for nights when I don't arrange specifically for it, I didn't speak to anyone between the time I left work and, well, now, except to order drinks or give instructions to the cab driver. Savage was strangely empty tonight - I can only assume that there was something else exciting going on that I didn't know about.

I was crashing at 10:30 when I was getting ready, and so I had a diet coke, with two shots of 151 to ameliorate the effects of the caffeine while keeping me standing. The rum's all gone (but WHY is the rum gone!?) and the caffeine endures. I danced hard enough that I eventually *stopped* sweating, so now I am drinking water so that I can get hydrated so that I can drink alcohol so that I can sleep at some point.

I feel good. The music what what I wanted and needed, and I hit the right mix of chemicals in my system when I was there. Intellectually, I know that I should not try to stay up straight through to tomorrow night. We shall see how that works out. Now to go find food/drink and water.

Well, it seems that I could, in fact, manage to do just about everything I wanted to do, plus a little more. All I had to do was skip sleep! :) I left home at 4:30, got to Hamilton at 6:30, and was at Dark Rave by 1am. I ended up at home by 7:30, and napped until 11:30.

Good Things:

  • Hanging out with the Hamilton gang

  • Dancing until I could dance no more

  • Trying new things

  • Getting to know people better

  • Discussing my being a stupid weasel like two rational adults.

Not Good Things:

  • Me, being very weaselly about changes of plans.

  • A few short reminders of things I am not good at.

  • I lost a glove on my way home.

Neutral Things:

  • Dark Rave is still not quite my scene for dancing - too many people talking with friends, standing around, and talking on their cell phones on the dance floor. Also, I like dancing to slightly more aggressive music. This just means that I will have to make sure I go to Savage as well as FunHaus for nights out. The Star Wars theme was fun, though.

  • Polyester sith robes don't breathe at all. But they can be shrugged out of easily for air conditioning.

I need a time machine or something. Even a personal teleporter would suffice for most uses, I think.

Saturday night, I had been thinking of going to Dark Rave - they're having a big anniversary thing, and doing a Star Wars theme. I had worked out a full sith outfit, modified for dance level ventilation, with an optional layer shed if I got too warm, and was fairly happy with said design. More importantly, I haven't been dancing in far too long, and need to get out and shake something.

However, saturday is also [livejournal.com profile] kalivor's party, possibly the last one he'll have a chance to throw before he moves out and heads off to the UK. Not only that, but [livejournal.com profile] pez_minotaur has proposed to finally do Iron Bartender that night.

There will be more Dark Raves, in due time, and if it comes to it, KoolHaus is going to be playing Industrial Sunday night, which might fulfil my dancing needs, though I'm less likely to run into people I know that night. Time's running out on nights to drink with [livejournal.com profile] kalivor, though, so I'll have to put away Darth Mime for a while, and skip Dark Rave.

To sum up, fuck you time, with your constancy and inelasticity. Space can also got and get sodomized by an irate goat for similar reasons, while we're at it.

A quick review;

Nearly all the cool boot stores in TO have closed. Siren is gone (though supposedly it will return with a new name and owner). Nocturnalia is now online only. Army surplus stores no longer have actual surplus army gear, particualrly combat boots - the armies of the Western world are now using all thier gear until it disintegrates, and no longer make it available as cheap, sturdy footwear for young people. (I suspect I no longer count as a young person either, as far as that goes).

On the other hand, HMV has a goth/industrial section. The Savage Garden people are going to be opening a cyber/goth shop on Queen West.

It's goth, Jim, but not as we know it.

Basically, this means that I am going to need to find places to buy boots online when these ones fall apart, and that I am going to need to learn how to sew from a pattern (instead of just connecting squares, which is how all my sewing is done now) before my ruffly shirts fall apart. Based on what I saw in the UK last December, there's still hope of finding such things online, too.

Welcome to the future - there will be shipping costs.

Just a reminder, I am going gothclubbing Saturday night, for any who want to come along.

The May gothclubbing has been completed, and it was a success. The crowd was a little different than usual, in part I suspect, because Fetish Masquerade was going on at Funhaus down the street - the crowd seems to be different at Savage depending on what's going on there these days.

Nonetheless, there was much good dancing to be had. The rhythm seemed different than what I'm used to, but I got into it pretty easily, and groove-stomped the night away (instead of just stomping as I usually do). I wasn't in the mood for booze, so I only bought a bottle of water the entire night.

I wore the manskirt out for the first time. It took some getting used to, but I got it worked out in time. The worst part was that, since it has no pockets and no belt loops, I had everything shoved into a small suede pouch haning off of one of the clips on the skirt, and initially, it had too much room to swing. I evetually re-tied it to protect my anatomy, and was set for the rest of the evening.

I stayed out later than planned, because every time I thought about leaving, a song came on that I decided I had to dance to.

To sum up; night == good.

Now, monkey == tired, so, bed.

McSweeny's provides "Words to know when listening to German Industrial Music".

Also... I am looking for a song ID - there is a song that gets played frequently at clubs, and I have no idea what the name is, or who it is by. It has a sample in the middle that sounds like a young Japanese woman saying "Obasan wa" or similar. There are a few non-sampled lyrics in a man's voice. That's a pretty vague description... I really wish I could get net.radio at work - that tends to be good for stumbling across songs I have liked for years, but could not track down.

Apparently, I drank all night long!

Hello water my old friend!

Actually, once I got to the club, I had a bottle of water for every alcoholic drink I had.

Given the amount of money left in my pocket, that was a lot of... water.

I am sore, I stink, and am very very thirsty.

Mmm, water.

I closed the club, which I haven't done in a long time.

I had a really good time at the club tonight. Much dancing. More social interaction than usual when I go clubbing alone.

I should be very tired right now.

All day yesterday, my right knee was a little sore. Later in the day, it became more sore. By the time Lizard and I were on our way back from suuuushi, I was limping, and the pain had moved to encompass calf, thigh, hip, and right shoulder.

I have this problem occasionally where my hips tilt to one direction (like this / ), making one leg suddenly much shorter than the other, casuing pain as that leg has to push harder when walking. This morning, I decided to go to the gym to see if I could knock myself back into place - I went, and, shockingly, it actually worked - the pain in my leg is mostly gone, and the knot in my right shoulder is about half the size.

My plan for the afternoon was to do laundry, have a hot bath to prevent stiffening of muscles, then a short nap so I would have energy for clubbing, and then hit [livejournal.com profile] uniquecrash5's place for a while pre-club.

As of 5:30, I am still working on the first item - laundry has been sucking today. It shouyld only take me 1.5 hrs to do 3 loads, not 5.5 hours. Bah.

At present, I am working on dinner (meatless burger - I was supposed to make meatless chili, but it's a) too much work, and b) not what I want to eat before I go to dance in a crowded space for hours), then I will have my bath. The nap and trip to Casa de Blackthorn are, sadly not likely to happen. On the up side, being tired may mean that I won't overdo it and injure myself tonight. Or, I suppose, it might make it more likely.

We will see.

Also - if you ever decide to try mixing milk, yogurt and chocolate syrup to make up for not having a milkshake - it doesn't work. Blech.

So, I've been thinking recently that I should try to make it to Dark Rave every once and a while. And, as it turns out, there's one this weekend - so, Saturday night StB and I are going to go. We are also still going to Savage Friday night.

I am a wild party.

Club, two weeks in a row!

Dancing, good!

I should really make an effort to get out once a month or so, rather than once every three or four months. It's so much nicer now that there's no smoking.

I think I am finally going to have to admit that the combat boots that I bought in 1996 don't fit any more; it's kind of scary that I was young enough back then that my feet actually grew a bit more. I think I know people who started high school the year I bought those boots.

I go drug myself into unconsciousness for a few hours now.

Random things;

Being hit in the testicles with a violin is painful.

In browsing through that "I've done/not done" meme, I realise I have done very, very little.

Went gothclubbing Saturday night. The crowd was different; I didn't really recognoize anyone, which was odd. I think that, perhaps, a large portion of the crowd have started going somewhere else, or else just stopped going out (a possibility, since I am old).

My ears are still ringing from the aformentioned gothclubbing. Next time, I intend to take earplugs. This will, I hope, prevent further damage, but Isuspect that the current ringing is telling me that I have just lost a chunk of my hearing range.

I am getting exceptionally good at avoiding doing things lately; if you're expecting me to do something, remind me often, because I am going to be extremely flakey until work becomes less insane, and I start getting exercise and sleep again.

I have a lot of phone calls that I need to make. I am avoiding them all. I also need to fill out a heap of expense reports, which I am also avoiding.

I am looking forward to having some time to just crash out. There is a chance of that happening this weekend, unless work eats the weekend.

Bah

( May. 22nd, 2004 03:35 pm)
I had great plans to be productive today. I was going to rush around, doing laundry, dishes, tidying, sweeping, scrubbing! All that stuff.

Instead, I woke up at 8:30, went to get quarters and garbage bags at 10:30, then went back to bed at 11:30, and slept until nearly 3. I'm still waiting to have energy to do... well, anything.

My body is refusing to recover quickly from the big ick earlier this week, which I am finding frustrating. I only made it to the gym once this week, and I had a short workout becuse I started to shake before I got into the serious part. Jujutsu started at 3 today, so I've now missed two classes.

I am hoping that, once I finally finish waking up, I will have some reserve of energy to use when I go out to the club tonight, because I want to go badly enough to go even if I still feel weird.

In summation, grr.

30 minutes to Savage Garden. I've got a full tank of Absente. It's dark, and I'm wearing eyeliner.

Hit it.

Well, I skipped kung fu. That is, I went, sat around for half an hour, then came home. I am very tired.

However, I got to be goth all day long.

Gothy goth goth goth.

I celebrate by making a new pic.

I won! Best retro 80's costume.

I got a bag of candy!

mmm... candy!
I am overgothed at work. It is fun. It's kind of interesting to see some people's reactions. Depsite it being hallowe'en, some people still look at me with faces that look scared or angry.

I like the new boots. I'm getting used to them pretty quickly. They are stompy, and big and have metal bits. And when i walk around work with them, my feet make a "boom" sound.

i need to go fix my makeup. I deliberately went for the gothboi who doesn't quite know how to do his makeup properly look, so my eyeliner has smeared underneath, and given me raccoon eyes. Also, my lipstick is half-gone, and half-gone black lipstick loks bad.

I slept really poorly last night. I am tired. I may not work out at kung fu tongight. I may just show up, say hi, then go home.
