Random thought; if I were a monarch with a court fortune teller, I would regularly test his/her abilities by hiring someone to attempt to murder the fortune teller in a manner which would be easily avoided by someone who knew it was coming; poisoned tea, hidden tiger pit, etc. When the fortune teller died, I would know that he/she had lost zir touch.
