Okay. I don't go through a canister on a weekend trip, so one per day should do fine. (I use the camp gas, rather than the propane... use may vary, but I don't think the difference should be too drastic - I'll be interested to see what others say.)

WARNING: Don't mess with the waterproofing on your tent.

Big camp secret - The inside walls of your tent WILL get wet - part of that is condensation, part may be water infiltrating. It won't be a problem unless you touch the inside of your tent with your fingers and draw the moisture in.

What do camp counselors end up yelling at young campers for their first full weekend camping? Don't touch the inside of the tent! (Man. Takes me right back!)

You will want to keep your gear about 12 inches (hells, give me a minute... um... 32 centimeters? +/-? anyway) aways from the walls of the tent so that the water doesn't come off the sides straight into your dry clothing.

You can offset the water situation with the big tarp overfly. Once you get in the field with others camping, you will see what this means.

Essentially, you get a cheap tarp that is slightly bigger than your tent and run that over the tent. (Works best for the dome style tents - if you are in an old canvas jobbie, disregard this idea - one, you won't need it - and two, figuring out how to effectively run a tarp over without just laying on the tent is something that would take some time to work out.)

The reason this works is because the dome tents have the little airspace between the top and the inner tent. When you put the overfly up, it never really touches the tent, and so the water it gets runs off and doesn't get inside.

We found that our tent fly that came with it is really a bit short for the tent, and so we run with the overfly as a standard camp set up. Depending on your site and the weather, you may not need one... but that is something that you learn to gauge with experience.

All you really need is the sarongs. Well, the utilikilt would be a good substitute! You can mooch anything else by smiling and/or doing dishes.

Actually, I think you forgot warm clothes, booze, flashlight and cutlery, which are in fact useful. Much of the rest of your list assumes you will camp in an area with a firepit (not guaranteed) and that none of your friends bring stuff. Do you know which area you are camping in? The Obstacle Course (where I camp) and a neighbouring area are poly-friendly.

I suspect 5 canisters will be more than enough, but there's no harm in having it. :)

Also, plan to bring one water bottle for daily tote'n'use, and a flask for something to decant your alcohol into at night. If I recall correctly, there's no glass allowed around the bonfire, so a booze-only plastic container is a perk.

Can opener? Food storage stuff?

Biodegradeable shampoo and conditioner -- I seem to recall this was a camp requirement last year.

And it's handy to have a dirty clothes bag of some kind, even if this is another garbage bag. Just don't accidently through your clothes away! :D

I'm going to do my own post with "things I'm planning to bring" and then we can check over the two lists for overlap. We CANNOT forget the corkscrew!

Yup, I know about the don't touch the walls bit. And yeah, I'm in an old canvas fortress. I think the gazebo will fit over my tent if it comes to needing a cover, but I shouldn't need to, as I understand it...

A few people are heading in a few days before fest to scout out ideal locations, and save space for us, so we should be guaranteed a fire pitted area. I have no idea where that is in relation to anything else yet, though.

I have this biodegradable soap stuff from MEC which claims to be useful as dish soap, body soap and shampoo. Especially if I get a hair cut close to the trip, I can make do without conditioner for a week, so that point is covered.

Nalgene family added to the check list, along with flask and booze.

Re massive pot...

I have a *huge* canning pot you can borrow since if you buy one, it doesn't sound as though you'll have much use for it later...plus, where the heck are ya gonna store it after?

See, the other things is that it can't be *too* massive, since it has to fit on the camp stove... I have kitchen pots that are the right size, but there is a concern that taking them camping will wreck them.

Well, I do have a less huge one...you know, the ones that are black with white speckles.

I think it's in the same place as the sleeping bags I promised mycrazyhair so I can take a look and if it suits you, you are welcome to borrow it, hon!
