Weirdness on the highway

Weird thing seen on the highway today; I was following a dirty truck. I noticed something had been written on the back of the truck in the dirt. Then I realised that it was written in Norse runes. I tried to take a picture with my camera phone, but the camera on it is pretty awful, so one can't even tell that the truck is dirty, let alone see well enough to make out what's written on it.

Goddamned vandalous Vikings, man.

Wow. I'm not sure what's stranger: that it was written in Viking Runes or that you recognized them?

Apparently a balustrade in the Hagia Sofia has "Halvdan was here" carved into it.

Also the Piraeus Lion (one of two marble lion statues that guard the gates to the Arsenal, both were looted by Venetians from Greek holdings) - has a lindworm runic inscription

That's....crazy. But in an awesome way. And Norse runes aren't terribly hard to recognize as such...right?

They're not too hard to recognize if you have played with them a bit, which I have. I know enough to tell the difference between actual runes and, say, Tolkien dwarven runes, but not enough to tell which rune is which without a reference, and definitely not enough to be able to translate.

It's crazy in a nerdy way, and the runes probably said "Clean Me" in Viking. Either that or "Jordheim or Bust!"

Pity about the picture. Are you sure they weren't Anglo-Saxon runes? ;-)

I recognized several runes from the elder futhark, so I think we can blame the vikings.
