i posted this recently. the boy and i are now at the top end of "normal" but what i weighed 3 years ago i would have been considered obese. not liking that scale too much anymore.

That's really interesting.

Also really disturbing.

Um, a lot of the people who are labeled obese and morbidly obese look just fine to me. According to the BMI, my husband is morbidly obese. Never mind that he has a naturally large build and also lifts weights regularly. The BMI doesn't care whether your weight comes from muscle or fat. I loathe the BMI.

*rant over*

This chart of heights and weights is cooler, and better organized, IMHO. The BMI's aren't listed, but they're pretty easy to calculate, right?

ug.

i so dislike the BMI. According to it, even when i was at my lowest weight - and i will admit out loud that i looked pretty damn hawt - i was still considered obese on the BMI.

And with [livejournal.com profile] 50_ft_queenie the whole muscle vs. fat thing. *sigh* i wish doctors wouldn't refer to that with their patients who are trying to lose weight or who are trying to be healthy for the body type they are.

The BMI has B as morbidly obese when he was 18 had not an ounce of fat on him and farming for a living. Admitedly he also apparently didn't botehr with a jeck when he wanted to see what was wrong with the underside of his car.

But he did have a Dr that told him to loose weight, told him what weight he should be and B asked if maybe it would be easier to just lop off all him limbs.

Sucks to the BMI. According to that thing, all the girls I find most attractive are 'overweight'. I'm a pound and a half short of overweight too, so says the BMI calculator.

It doesn't take into account body frame size either- the normal weight for a person with a slight build is a LOT different than that of someone with a big build.

According to the BMI, I am still overweight.
