Technology that someone should have built by now;

  • LED bindi: a tiny light and battery that attaches to the forehead providing decoration and illumination.

  • Old school Trek communicator: An old school Star Trek flip open communicator that does either does bluetooth or is an actual phone.

  • TNG Trek communicator: A small pin that works as a bluetooth speakerphone.

  • Pocketwatch phone: A small gold clamshell phone on a chain.

Why aren't our gadgets prettier?

Those things might not exist, but i know I've seen shows and read articles on those machines you can get that allow you to design and machine build anything you can think of. I think they still cost a couple mill to have one, but think of the investment you'd be making, since you could corner the LED bindi market.

LED Bindi: could work, especially with a red LED. The trick would be to get a soft, even glow, and not a harsh flashlight pattern.

Trek communicator: you know that's what inspired the invention of the cell phone, right? So, already done, but man it would be annoying to people nearby the user.

TNG Trek communicator: tricky, it would be mostly a problem of packaging so as to leave enough room for batteries. not to mention problems with ambient noise pickup.

Pocketwatch phone: oh this one is totally possible, at least as a bluetooth extension of the actual phone. Basically it would be a repackaged headset (could be homebrewed as such). The noise pickup problem for this is already solved. Giving it a nice chime would be a bonus, but I don't know how.

No, no! You want a very bright pin of light in the bindi. One that flashes. Yep, raver bindi!

You could probably solve the TNG comm power problem with either some kind of biomechanical or wireless power.

Well, now you could conceivably have the pin as a battery holder/switch/receiver, and make the shirt around it the speaker:

This is as close as I can get right now...but I'm sure it won't be long.

Agreed on all counts. Also, MP3-playing hip flask.

And jetpacks.
