Interesting, especially all the discussion in the comments afterwards. I'll have to read further when I have a bit more time...

But my first thought on seeing the title was "I'm still trying to figure out why women do read them!"

I have held hour long debates and arguements into the porn vs. romance novels debate in our library system.

Usually the debate is centered around the censorship of graphic fiction titles like Sandman or the like that contain graphic nudity and adult content.

You can grab many romance novels and begin reading (perhaps even in public) about "hard members" and throbbing groins" and it can somehow silence even the staunches critic.

It's a "politeness" argument (and you know how I feel about those!). To me politeness has no place in an art and yet somehow text is seen as more polite than image.

Why men don't read more romance? Not enough guns and explosions. ;)
