Work has finally calmed down a bit. I'm catching up on CoU e-mails, finally.
I just had a thought; the City of Toronto is refusing to grant a marriage certificate to the gay couple that won the supreme court case, right?
Well, why is that? Then I realized; the Pope is in town. Mel's spin doctors don't want the Pope to come face to face with the first legal homosexual married couple in North America (I think they're the first, anyway).
So, I predict the city will back down once his large-hatted-ness has gone back home.

I suddenly have the urge to organize a spontaneous pride parade.
And here's me thinking I didn't have any more issues with Christianity. Well, aside from the murder, disease and ostracization of millions. Oh, and the cultural destruction. Ahem.
I'm getting better, really I am. I can hang around inside the Vatican and not think about how all the riches came from the toil of honest people, or stolen from South American natives centuries ago. Really I can.
Actually, I saw the Piete, (Michelangelo's statue of Mary holding the dead/dying Jesus). That was something, and even moving. I can't hold anything that has produced that much beauty in TOTAL contempt. Even Christians have redeeming factors :)

I'm not sure whether to be proud that we're one of the first to allow this, or disappointed that there are so few places in the world where equality extends far enough to include same sex marriages.
A little of both, I suppose, though more of the second.
