The Buggy Future

This is the future. Where we are living right now is the world of tomorrow. There are no flying cars, and no jetpacks. Those belong in Yesterday's Future. The reason the future looks wrong is that we used it all up - "Modern" was all used up by the late 1960s, and what we expected the Future to look like was drawn up and passé by the end of the 1970s.

We have Wikipedia, we have gigabytes of music and video streaming to our homes and our pockets. We have social media creeping around the walls of oppressive governments. I can have the internet bring me huevos rancheros and dim sum. Scientists have grown a rabbit a full functional replacement penis. Any computer can bring more porn than any one person can ever watch. My cell phone will not only tell me where the nearest sushi place is, it'll tell me how to get there and show me what it looks like.

And this is all easy. This is all normal. This can't be the future, because we're here. Because there's no jetpacks and no flying cars, no moon base or robot maids. Look around you - the future is happening right in front of your eyes. Don't miss it. Reach out and.... hold on. Okay, yeah, I have to take this.

Anyway. This is the future, right here. I... wait, just a sec, I lost signal. Okay, it's rebooting now...

FIN.

I always seem to do fine until I hit the first weekend. Ah well.
