Monday is Winter Solstice. I'll be staying up all night to make sure the sun comes back on Tuesday. :)

I'm working Monday, but taking Tuesday off to sleep. We'll see how this goes - I prefer to do the vigil without stimulants since I figure it should be difficult. Given that by the time the sun rises on Tuesday, I'll have been up for more than 25 hours, I may give up and caffinate. Or have absinthe. We shall see.

The plan is to leave work a bit early and get home to do my opening rit at sunrise. Thereafter, I'm not sure what I'm getting up to. I want to hit the festival of lights in Kensington, but I also want to hang out with the "It's not a school night!" Stitch and Bitch crowd.

I'm giving serious thought to dressing up in a robe and my birch bark mask for Kensington, just because. I also think I will rig up a carrying method for a moon jar, since it is effectively captured sunlight in a jar. I'd also like to see how long it lasts on a full charge with the new batteries in it.

Has anyone else been to the festival of lights before? When are the prime hours to be there?

i have never been to Kensington.

i have no plans for monday and could conceivably be in TO at any time prior to S&B or a walkabout. by which i mean to say, i'm flexible (and would gleefully wear my Green Man mask and ensemble to accompany such amblings ;-)

Should be a goods time to check it out - the most dangerous shops should be closed, protecting pocket books. :)

My current provisional plan is to get home from work by 4, do my opening rit at sunset (around 4:30, IIRC), and then make it to Kensington for 6 when the parade starts. I figure two hours outside in the cold may be enough, so heading homewards for S+B around 8ish.

If you want to meet me either at my place or in Kensington, it'd be lovely to see you. :)

I've been. The parade is more my thing than the after party, and it starts around around 5ish. I think I might go this year too, if I get done with family obligations early enough.

It's a shitload of fun. I try to go every year.

I've been to the Festival of Lights once before, and it was magical. Parades and lights and fire spinners and clowns and just a feast for all the senses. I'm going again this year with M and several friends. I'm coming right from work so I can't dress up, but I will be in wild costume on the inside. :-)

The idea is that I'll be saving some of the light from today so that there will be some tomorrow. If the sun doesn't come up, I'll therefore be able to go light it up again. If no one does it, then the great wolf Skoll devours the Sun, and we're condemned to Fimbulwinter, three winters with no summer in between. After that, the world ends.
