That was quite a storm last night.

Around 10:30 last night, the lights started to flicker. The cycling power seems to have fried some key piece of hardware in my linux server (where [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil and I keep our e-mail, among other things). Due to earlier hardware problems on my workstation, that box had been off for a couple days, so my off-system backups for the linux box are a couple days old. When I get home tonight, I'll have to excavate the server and see if there's enough of it left to display error messages (right now it doesn't have a monitor, keyboard etc. hooked up). The savings I had set aside for replacing the linux server has cleverly evaporated in the last couple weeks, so this could be fun.

In addition, the storm last night knocked out the water to our building somehow. This means no shower this morning, and no brushing teeth. I am glad that there's a gym at work where I can do these things, otherwise it would be a very stinky day for me.

On the plus side, the problems with my workstation have mysteriously vanished.

The good; I got into work and showered and brushed my teeth at the gym. So I no
longer feel quite so gross.

Ashes being dead means, though, that I no longer have access to LJ or any kind
of IM at work. I can still read new e-mails through memento-mori's webmail
interface, but I have no access to old e-mails - if you were waiting on a reply
to something from me, you'll need to re-send.

Fortunately, I have the instructions to post via e-mail to LJ saved in my phone
in case of emergencies.
