We went to the toyota dealership on Monday night, and took a look at the Echo.

I found that the inside was a bit too small for comfort for me; I couldn't get the seat to go back quite far enough, and I'm not that tall. It was better to drive than the Accent, but not as nice as the Civic, so I think that we're going to go with that.

I'm trying to get an online quote for insurance to make sure that we can handle that, financially speaking. Once that is cleared up, we can go and buy the car - hopefully by this weekend, so we should actually own a car by next week.

Pez suggested to me, and I forward the suggestion to you, to look at some sort of group insurance.

It seems that alumni associations and many (good) employers have group insurance plans that come much cheaper than standard insurance rates. The McMaster alumni association uses Meloche Monex, but you'll probably also want to check out any insurance company that your company (and the UofT alumni assoc. (if graduate student alumni qualify) and Sheridan's alumni assoc, if it has one) might have a deal with.

My employer, technically speaking, currently sells it's own brand of auto insurance. Unfortunately, they won't even give me a quote without me filling out a paper form, mailing it in and waiting 15 days. In the grand tradition of my employer, there is no advantage, rate-wise, for employees - when they opened their own auto insurance line, they shut down the old group auto insurance plan.

I will look into the alumni association thing, though...

Hmm, U of T does alumni insurance through meloche monnex as well. Sheridan offers it through some other branch of TD bank. The only thing that worries me about this route is how this works out for Liz and I; would it mean that we'd have to get insured by different companies? Would *that* cause problems for Liz, since she only wants to be insured as a secondary driver? Bah. I suppose I should start askign the companies these questions.
