Now that the death march hours should be finally over, I'm looking at the physical damage it's done. I haven't been to the gym in three weeks, and I've been consuming a lot of caffeine. My liver is sore, and my right leg/hip are aching enough that I'm getting a bit of a limp again.
I'm going to take it easy this week, just stretching and lower impact cardio, both to ease back into exercising, and to give myself more time to get ready for camping this coming weekend.
I'm also going to try to a "detox" - I am going to try to give up alcohol, caffeine and sweets for three weeks to give my body a chance to heal a bit. We'll see how possible it is; caffeine-free and driving on less than enough sleep can be risky, and sugar is usually my backup stimulant when I am avoiding caffeine.
Right now, I rather wish I could just crawl off and nap for a couple days.

Feel better soon. Good luck with the detoxing; I know it can be hard.

Of course seratonin and dopamine are antagonistic, so if you give yourself a few minutes to digest the protein (for example) then the seratonin will fill up all the receptors and eating your carbs won't make you sleepy.
It only takes a few minutes, but you have to be careful about even fruit juice and such. I find that animal protein -- boiled egg or a kipper or something -- first thing in the am is ideal. And on the other end, a bit of bread or pasta in the evening will help make you sleepy.
This strategy nicely compliments the technique of eating many small meals instead of a few big ones.
