I used to own Amber and played it once...once. I really wished this had not been the case it was fun to watch and play.

There used to be an Ambercon North in Toronto, but the hotel screwed it over, so it's dead, since no other hotels can host it. :(

Why is that (no other hotels, I mean)? too expensive?

That's part of it - there was a list of criteria, including cost, having suites/places to run big games, proximity to downtown Toronto, and I think a couple other things. And there are no hotels that meet all the criteria given. It could be done out by the airport, but a significant percentage of attendees stated that they'd only come to ACN if it was downtown, since seeing the city was part of the appeal of the con for them.
