Because I am a sheep; I know I am going to run at least one game at ACUS, but I haven't figured out which one(s) yet. Amber folks, which of the following sound like a game you'd like to play in?

#1) The world of the Blood. Basically, set in the world this story is set in. It's a modern sci-fi/"gothic-punk" type world with competing groups of super-powered psychics etc. It's also a proper Amber game - characters are all built with 5 pts (15 if you give me a character before the con). New powers allowed, strict reading of the DRPG sorcery rules (so you really need to have conjuration to be a decent sorceror), selling down of attributes is expected - compared to a normal human, Amber level strength is pretty mighty.

PCs have never heard of Amber, or Chaos, so there's no Pattern or Logrus. The population of people with Amberite blood is at least in the hundreds, possibly in the low thousands.

The PCs work for the Order of the Grail, a group of humans similar to Watchers (both the Highlander and the Buffy versions) who try to guide members of the Blood to fight evil and keep powerful artifacts out of the wrong hands.

#2) The Nano-Victorian Future It's 100+ years in the future. The world came to the brink of the Singularity, then fell apart. The US has pulled itself back together into something that resembles, in many ways, Victorian England. Except with nanotech, genetically engineered warrior angels and cybernetic implants. The Nano-Victorian Future closes the loop between cyberpunk and steampunk.

PCs can be anarchist proles, gentleman nano-engineers, aristocrats in SmartFibre frock coats and genetically enhanced super-soldiers.

#3) Caecern; a game of high fantasy. This would be the hardest to do as a con game, since the setting is actually pretty detailed, and mostly in my own head. I suspect I'd get frustrated trying to get the player concepts to fit into the not-quite-D&D setting. On the other hand, I really like the setting, and have a very clear idea of how all the powers work.

The upside is, hey, epic fantasy! The downside is that it'd be a high "homework" game for both me and the players. Really I should run this one in an ongoing F2F campagin, but I don't have the time. If I had a handful of players who were interested enough to go back and read some of the microfic, and I got my butt in gear to clean up some of the web info I have on the setting, it could still work.

I had a good con.

I finally had a shamrock shake. They taste like minty chemicals. I couldn't finish mine.

My games were all awesome. I'd promise to review them, but I probably won't.

Brutally tired. Did not get searched at the border in either direction!

I won the graphic design contest, so my pattern sword picture will be on next year's t-shirt. I was not expecting to win!

Got pretty clothes.

Work tomorrow. Sleep now.

doom!

This is a contribution for [livejournal.com profile] corwin77's PBeM. Most people probably don't want to bother to read this, so I cut.

It seems that I lifted properly while helping StB move on Sunday - no soreness in the lower back, but a fair bit in the legs, chest and shoulder (rotator cuff, maybe? The places where I've injured both shoulders in the past, anyway). Last night at the gym kind of sucked; my legs started to ache too much to finish my cardio, so I called it a night so I could be better rested for tonight at the gym. This would have worked out, except that when I went up to Eglinton to pick up a package, I miscalculated where the post office thing was, and ended up spending 90 minutes walking around lugging backpack and laptop, and was feeling pretty rough when I got home.

After crashing out for a bit, eating a tasty dinner of spinach and potato fruttata (sp?), and watching NCIS and House, I went to bed in a pretty good mood.

My body has been deciding, with increasing frequency, that 5:30 is when I should be waking up. When it does so, it takes me a roughly half an hour to fall back asleep (if I can at all, which, increasingly, I can't) - which is no good, since my alarm is set for 6:00. I'm not sure if this is just because I'm at the end of a sleep cycle (which are, I'm told about 90 minutes long), or the fact that the sun is starting to come up then, or if the people in the apartment above us are waking up then. I do end up feeling less sleepy when I wake up on my own, but I do miss that sleep. Mmmm, sleep.

Speaking of sleep, and getting it vs. not getting it, my body is still apparently pretty pissed off that I drank so much caffeine at ACUS and at the Hell Weeks after it at work. It feels kind of like there is a spear entering the right side of my chest, where my heart would be if I had dexocardia, and exiting my back about six inches lower. The lung in between doesn't hurt at all, just the muscles. I have no idea what causes this, but hopefully if I remain virtuously decaffinated, it will eventually go away.

In not-complaining about my body news, I am very excited about [livejournal.com profile] corwin77's PBeM. I need to finish the short story I'm writing as back story for it so that I can actually send e-mails for the game - I am going to start involving people from the story in the game, so it'd probably help if the GM knew who I was talking about. I've also got one trump done, and have descriptions with which to create more - I'll post them once I have a few.

The web page for No Higher Authority, the game I'm running at ACUS this year. I'm not certain about the design; it's a little too shiny for a fantasy web page. I may redo the CSS this weekend. Comments are welcome, especially on the content.

Time is running short if I am going to run a game...

Help me pick one! )

I've finally registered for Ambercon.

Now I need to figure out a) how I am going to get there and b) where I am going to stay.

I can't recall if the two bed rooms are, in fact two bedrooms with a bed in each or a single bedroom with two beds in. If the latter, I need to decide how much I want a place to run and hide by myself for the con, if it comes to it.

For b), I should have just purchased a car by the time of the con (I think), and, if not, I can rent one. So, assuming that I don't get us completely lost, I should be able to get StB and I down there ok. I think.

(this all ignores c), how I'm going to afford this right after buying a car, but we'll just pretend that problem doesn't currently exist)

I also need to decide if I want to run a game... I'm leaning towards no at this point because, well, I'm not the world's best GM, and while a lot of the ACUS people will be people I know, I'm a bit nervous about a new crowd.
Well, in some ways, it's been an interesting day.

Work was pretty dull. I spent most of the day waiting for someone else to finish what he was doing. By 4 he still hadn't so I left.

Lunch was kabob, to celebrate K.'s engagement. While we were there, a relative of another coworker came by, and was introduced to all of us. At first, i was impressed that he switched to polite, clear english to speak with me, but then he went into the standard "oh hey, are you okay with this food, it's spicy!" Like, "hey, are you aware that you're white?" Yeah, and I can eat spicy food without dying. Is that really so shocking? I get that in indian places, pakistani places, chinese places, and generic asian noodle joints. Though I suppose I do look damned white.

Cry of the Unicorn seems to be shaping up nicely. I have basic character concepts from everyone except [livejournal.com profile] neeuqdrazil, so it's looking like I might be able to start the auction on thursday instead of next tuesday. I may wait anyhow, though, on account of the long weekend. Opinions?

In any case, I think I have all the players I'm going to get; if you got an invitation mail, you have until thursday morning to let me know if you want to join.

After work, I was feeling very run down, and low on energy, and my insides felt like I'd swallowed something angry, with sharp teeth. I wanted to skip the gym.

I went anyway, and had a great workout. I did absolutely everything on my list, did full sets with my weights (first time since the boston-montreal gap that I have), then showered and ran to catch the bus, and still had energy when I got home. It's a good feeling.

Not long after I got home, and Zil and I had started dinner, I had a surprise visit from my dad. He's out of work right now, but is getting ready to start a training class thing, and wanted to borrow some software so he can install linux this weekend. He's looking better than he did when he was working; he seemed happy, and he's lost a fair bit of weight. Hopefully, the training will get him back on his feet, and into a job he doesn't hate.

And while I was supposed to be finished it sunday, I'm finally starting work on my resume. I hate doing these things. But the alternative is pager-time for the rest of my life, so...

And yes, my friends, this means you all get to kick me in the ass the next time you see me.
