Things learned tonight:

  • If I use primer on my eyes before putting on eyeliner, it will actually not run, even with the amount I sweat when dancing!

  • I can dance all night in a gi top, because it breathes well. Unlike my old Darth Maul tunic made from heavy polyester.

  • I've learned a lot about sewing since I made my long Sith robe for Hallowmas. I spent some time this afternoon going over it, zigzag stitching the seams and reattaching the sleeve I put on inside out the first time. I put it back on inside out again, but now it's harder to tell since the seams are finished better.

Questions pondered:

  • Is it acceptable to glowstick to Industrial/EBM if you're doing it at Dark Rave?

  • If the dance floor is entirely empty, does it become acceptable to violate the normal politeness rule about not throwing high kicks on the dance floor?

I dragged myself out to DarkRave this evening, and had a pretty good time. I think a fair number of the more hard core out of high school Dark Rave crew were at BM or something similar - the crowd was a little thin, and there seemed to be fewer 20-somethings; lots of kids and a fair number of the old guard. Holy Joes was Industrial/EBM all night, so I spent most of my time up there, wandering off to glowstick occasionally in the more air-conditioned room to change muscle groups for a bit. The downstairs wasn't bad music-wise, but the crowd were not my people - I haven't seen that much white under black light since... ever.

In any case, that was a good night out. Now, I should go to bed.

Now that was a proper send off.
I got to Savage at around 10:30, and actually got through the line up and in the club by 11. After a quick drink, it was off to the dance floor, where I spent the better part of the night until they kicked us out at 4. They ran out of beer before last call, and out of bottled water by 2ish. I'm really glad I went, and glad I got to dance.

Now, gatorade and stretching, and then sleep.

*sigh*

Squeezing my old fat hairy self into my goth gear. Drinking absinthe, putting on eye-liner and boots for one last hurrah. Savage Garden is closing tonight. From tomorrow on, I'll no longer be able to count on going to Queen West on a Saturday night and being able to find music I want to dance to.

It's been in decline for over a year, and its clear that the fix is in for Queen West as an area for clubs and weird clothes. I wonder if this is how folks like William Gibson felt when Yorkville turned into the Yuppie Preserve it is today.

I am just hoping the next bohemian neighbourhood in Toronto is actually, y'know, in the city. I'd hate to have to drive to Mississauga to go dancing.

I feel really old.

Woke up a bit later than planned. Drank the remainder of yesterday's pot of tea - still good, though we're now out of cane sugar.

Spent time fighting with my laptop, but eventually got quite a bit of work done, pantless, on the balcony.

At lunch, I showered, ran to the bank where the cute teller flirted with me, then went to Hope St. for a grilled veggie salad and a tuna melt. And a diet coke.

Back home, worked more. Put my bike together, biked to the gym, lifted weights and did some cardio before biking back home.

Showered and changed into kilt and zombie bunny shirt, then off to dinner, where we had good food and lousy service.

Finally, Evil Dead: The Musical! It was hilarious and awesome. They overused the lines from the movies a touch IMHO, but the gore more than made up for it. If you go, make the people going with you let you sit in the splatter zone. We were just outside it. Some people who clearly don't wear much white were wearing white shirts so they could get them covered in gore.

After that, [livejournal.com profile] corwin77 and the two friends of his from work and I went off to Savage. Savage has gotten really sad. They turned the lights on and sent us home at 2. NB for out of town spooky folks; going to Savage will make you sad.

I was tempted to wander over to Neutral to see what a club with people in it looks like, but I am supposed to be at a sewing makeup session tomorrow morning at 10am. I did not get the amount of work planned done on my pants, so I really should get there on time. Of course, I am caffinated to the point of feeling ill, so I don't want to sleep. Grar!

This Saturday night, EBM party at Funhaus, no cover. It's my only cahnce to go out dancing with my newly infrared hair. I will be there. Anyone want to come keep me company?

Jan 6th, Dark Rave. I missed the last one, and have been looking forward to this one. Then I see - all ages. Drat. Team-up with VampireFreaks.com. Double-drat. I'm still going. Come save me from the teenaged vampires.

I went out today and bought pretty much everything that I need for my Halloween costumes. I need to do a little sewing to make the Batman cape and cowl, but I have enough fabric leftover from previous costumes and unmade projects that I got to avoid fabricland this year.

I am also becoming a little unsettled by the changes in sizing in mens' clothing. I'm starting to have a hard time finding pants that fit - when I was 18, it seemed that most pants were sized "square" - the waist and inseam the same size, or close to that. Now that I'm back in that size range, the pants with the right waist size seem to assume that I'm about 5' 0". Also, some (but not all) manufacturers have redefined "large" so that, even though my torso is much bigger than it was when I was 18, I'm now wearing a medium.

I give into my yuppie urges today and bought a couple space aged exercise shirts - one with crazy warming fibres (seems to be warmed than my wool sweater), and another with crazy moisture dispersing fibres. Both include thumbholes stitched into the sleeves, which makes me absurdly happy. They also look like surperhero outfits, which doesn't hurt either.

On the downside, the apartment is in a mess, my network is broken and I didn't make it to the grocery store, so I have no food that I want to eat. I do need to eat something, though, before I go out to dance all night at DarkRave. I also didn't get laundry done, because there was a significant lineup in the laundry room when I went down, likely caused by one of the machines being broken. It looks like the broken machine flooded at least part of that floor.
